Sorry but I think it's wrong to post images of your children over the internet like this.

I really am puzzled about this... These children were around plenty of strangers on the beach where some of the pictures were taken.Plenty of strangers who might have looked at her, maybe thought that she was a bit chunky and could do with loosing a couple of pounds, strangers who might even have other thoughts, but posting the actual picture on the internet is a sin?

I do see where rollnchips is coming from.. I think if it were me I would have posted pictures either without the face/head or with the face distorted or blanked out. But that's just me. I'm not even a parent! On an internet site like this obviously millions of people can see the photos. Ultimately it is up to the OP whether or not she feels it is safe to post the pictures.

You must see a difference in posting photographs of your children online, without their consent and accessed by thousands to simply being around people in the beach?

I still don't think she's chunky. She's got a wee girl shape, whereas your wee boy has a wee boy shape, I often think kids with chubby faces are seen as fat or chunky too. Of course you want to watch what she's eating so she doesn't become fat. But by that you could always follow a sensible diet. And no doubt, you'll be worried about him too because he's showing as underweight. I really did go for years to dietitians with my DS. And it's made no difference, he still eats like a horse and is still a bean pole.

Think you can ask yourself 2 questions. Are my children eating the right kind of food? And Are they getting enough exercise? If you answer yes to those, carry on with what you are doing. If you think your DD could use a wee bit more exercise, up it a wee bit with more activity. But I do think you are a wee bit concerned over very little. My nieces were this shape at her age and as soon as they hit puberty the turned into beautiful slim ladies :)

No I don't. What is going to happen because photographs are posted on the internet for a limited time that couldn't happen by people looking on children on a beach? Since when do 7 year old are in a position to give consent?

Why would you need to give your daughter food just because her brother has some? She is not saying she's hungry whereas he is, so just give him some - some toast or cereal is fine.

If they both want a snack at bedtime, why not have something low fat like a bowl of cereal. Encourage your lass to have this and maybe give your lad an extra slice of toast. I think boys and girls tend to have a very different shape, as long as you're giving them both a healthy diet you needn't worry :0

Might as well give sugar cubes. It's the low fat revolution that has been the main cause of the obesity epidemic.

Better to give something high in protein than high in calories.

To be blunt, I think that it's awful that you are posting happy, holiday snaps of your children in order for the internet/strangers to comment on their weight. Imagine if in years time they find this or hear someone talking about this thread (you have included their faces afterall).

Having such an opinion of your child and allowing strangers to comment on them, will undoubtedly rub off in the way you parent them. Last thing you want is your children feeling insecure in themselves.

If you have true concerns about your children's weights then see a doctor. Common sense would be to feed them healthy, home made food when they are hungry and encourage fresh air and excercice whether they are over or underweight in your eyes.

I was actually expecting this to come up at some point.

My take on it is that my children are out in public, visible to everyone, everyday. Anyone could be seeing them and thinking heaven knows what, but I don't keep them in under lock and key just in case. I feel exactly the same with their images on the internet etc.

What I do make sure I do, though, is know where my children are, and that they are safe ALL of the time. They don't "play out" in the street, in the park or the beach unless they are accompanied by a responsible adult who will be watching them at all times (sometimes from a respectable distance, not encroaching on their lives and play).

TBH, if someone does something dodgy with their photos, whilst its horrible, it doesn't actually damage my children. I'm confident that my children are safe at all times and that's what actually matters.

I'm always a touch amazed at people who refuse to put images of their children of facebook etc, but are quite happy to let them play out, unsupervised for hours at a time.

I really wouldn't bother trying to "fatten up" your son: If he's active, healthy and bounces back OK after the usual colds and bugs they pick up, he's almost certainly fine. When my kids were going through a growth spurt and seemed hungry, I'd give them cereal at bedtime - something like Shreddies or Ready Brek rather than sweetened ones.

    Shreddies/malted wheats are 15% sugar. ;)
