Hi, The Co op has just stung me with a 'Daily Excess Charge', 'Service Charge' and 'Commission Unpaid Items'. Am I right in assuming that 'Service Charge' translates as Service Fee from the 'Cannot Be Claimed List'? Also, can I claim back either of the other two fines? Thanks.

can someone give me any advice on what i need to do next? barclays bank have charged me a paid referral fee for being £8.13 overdrawn, i was going to pay the money next week as i was going to get cash in there to clear the balance off.

also when i checked my balance online via online banking it said my account balance was in credit of £10.07 (i had a refund sent back to my account) so i withdrew the money only to find out that later on in the day they had changed the transaction to a normal card transaction (-£8.83) to instead of credit so it showed as minus £8.13 previously it had said i was in £1.70 in credit.

i would say that their online banking is deceiving and lieing they blatantly said that my account was in credit when it was not and waited for me to take out the money before charging me a excessive fee.

what would be the next step? i have the letter they sent me this morning i have googled about these fees and it says i need to write to the bank, what address do i need to write to for barclays? would going into the bank and demanding the money back work? or won't i be taken seriously that way? i would explain them the situation but i am sure they will shrug it off anyway i really do need that money for food and they took it away ¬_¬

My mother has a Lloyds TSB Gold Account and was recently charged about 30 quid for going under the 2,000 GBP limit that she needs to keep in her account each month.

Anyone know if it`s possible to reclaim anything? 30 quid is bloody excessive but not sure if a claim is possible?
  • does anyone know what the hsbc total charges (personal accounts) are for? i see it says they can be reclaimed but as like many others i;m sure, bit nervous of taking on the bank, so want to clarify.
  • i know all these banks going threw the courts about bank charges at the moment.
    so my question is
can i claim fees back will i be successfull in claiming these or will they rejact this until it has ended.
    many thanks

    Hi all,
I have a quick question regarding the Court Interest Calculator..

I am on the verge of writing to Barclays to begin the process of hopefully reclaiming my charges, now that they have sent the list to me, I am initially going to include asking for interest.

Presumably the 'Charge Amount' is where you enter the total fees from the statements the bank have provided? but it is the 'When was the charge?' part that's confusing me, because my statement only shows charges from 2001 - 2007, and within each year is the 'entries' and 'total fees', then a grand total at the end, which is my case is just over £3000. How am I meant to tell when the first charge date was??

Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.

Hi there, I am helping my mum to reclaim her bank charges. I am going through her statements and she has been charged many thousands.
I am really tring to help her but am having difficulty understanding what is what. Please help.
Is it just 'paid referral' charges that she can claim back? Also there are many charges on her account that are called 'unpaids out' and they are charged at £35. Does anyone know what these mean? And if they can be claimed back also? Thank you so much for your help x

    Normal overdraft interest charges<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    Contractual interest

This is what you see on your bank statements charged by the bank when you go overdrawn. It appears on your statement as 'INTEREST', or 'INT'.

There are normally two different interest rates charged. A lower rate is charged when you are overdrawn, but still within your agreed overdraft limit. Under no circumstances can this interest be reclaimed. There is a higher rate of interest (up to 29.9%) charged when you go over your overdraft limit (unauthorised overdraft). This is a bit trickier to deal with. You cannot claim any of this interest if your spending has caused you to go over your overdraft limit, but you can claim this interest on any bank charges that have caused this. The problem with this is working out the interest only on the charges. It can be difficult to get right, and you have to be very accurate with your figures in case the bank at any stage challenges them. Generally, most people don't claim this interest.

Use the above list and if you don't know exactly what the charge is then phone your bank or read the abbreviations on the statements as every bank can have different names for their charges.

Then use the Interest Calculator and follow the steps in Martin's article here...
