When I had some mortgage arrears, the mortgage company charged me a £50 per month 'administration fee' whilst I was in arrears. Can I reclaim this back from them?0

Please can someone help me?
I've just got 6 years worth of statements dropped on me, I've been going through them looking at what I can and can't claim after looking at your list. However, I have a few charges that just say 'Charges - then a date that is usually a month earlier than the date the charge has gone out - then my account number', I have no idea what kind of charge this is, can I claim it back??
I have other charges that say 'paid referral for (month)', so I know it's something different, and I know I can claim those ones.
Any help would be great, thanks!0 -

Contractual interest
This is what you see on your bank statements charged by the bank when you go overdrawn. It appears on your statement as 'INTEREST', or 'INT'.
There are normally two different interest rates charged. A lower rate is charged when you are overdrawn, but still within your agreed overdraft limit. Under no circumstances can this interest be reclaimed. There is a higher rate of interest (up to 29.9%) charged when you go over your overdraft limit (unauthorised overdraft). This is a bit trickier to deal with. You cannot claim any of this interest if your spending has caused you to go over your overdraft limit, but you can claim this interest on any bank charges that have caused this. The problem with this is working out the interest only on the charges. It can be difficult to get right, and you have to be very accurate with your figures in case the bank at any stage challenges them. Generally, most people don't claim this interest.
As above regarding overdraft interest.
As for the NatWest/RBS gold accounts, yes you can claim back charges from these accounts but not the monthly charge you pay for the services you receive for having this type of account. You might be best to check into if these benefits are actually worth the monthly charge you pay and if not ask to change your account.0 -
hi
the HSBC overdraft arrangement fee is a penalty as it is only charged if you have had penalty charge/s in the 6 months before it is due for renewal. in normal circumstanses it is not charged. I believe this applies for first direct too.
