Sadly I have loads - but I do try to save money else where to make up for it...
Car - Rationalisation to Self, we only have the one, it is small and means we have independence. I also work shifts and there is no public transport at night.
Ready Meals - RTS, as I say both myself and my partner work shifts meaning there are a lot of nights we are home alone. Yes batch cooking would be cheaper but 75p fish pies from Youngs at Iceland are far easier.
Professional Hair Cuts - RTS I always get discount because of my job and I don't have any other beauty treatments.
Coke or Pepsi Cola - RTS I only buy which ever is on offer but all the own brand stuff tastes awful. I do buy 18p Value Lemonade though.
Heinz Beans and Tomato Sauce - RTS same as above don't like the taste of cheaper ones.
My Cats - RTS they are a hot water bottle in the winter!
Eating out/Takeaways - once a week as a treat RTS - we don't drink and our weekday meals are low value.
Television and internet - RTS it's our entertainment and ultimately I work 50 hours in overtime per month to afford it and the above.
All a bit naughty - however, I do make my own pasta sauce, I don't drink, do my Xmas shopping in the sales, use Stardrops, have no supermarket loyalty and if I have to go to three in a day I will to get the price down. I always put a blanket on before the heating and shop in charity shops for both furniture and clothes.
I'll admit I have a way to go but I am trying - honest0 -

When I was reading the "what can you do without" thread, I started thinking about what I CAN'T live without - well I could but I don't want to! There are things that a lot of people would think of as a luxury but that make your life a little bit better.
Mine are:
- fresh coffee - we don't have instant in the house and get through a packet of cafetiere coffee a week
- good organic yoghurt - it seems to be less sweet and creamier, and I like thinking about the happy cows!
- original source shower gel - lovely fresh natural smell compared with the own brand equivalents, and I never buy full price as it's usually on special offer
For other things I'm quite happy to buy own brand or value, but these are my non-compromise items. What are yours?

Chinese!!! we try so hard to save money but we love takeaway, but that doesn't mean it has to be expensive we can feed all 5 of us for £9.50.
Our car, if we got rid of it we'd have to move house, we could prob switch to a smaller car now the kids are abit older but we will prob continue to use it til it dies.
Decent laundry liquid, i save money of fabric softener by buying nice smelling liquid, i buy on offer, it's £7 for 60 washes bogof twice a year in makro, 4 bottles does me the year, or i'm currently using persil i got 100wash boxes for £10 off amazon and ended up with a free one so £5 a box, or i have a big bag of crushed bold tablets i bought from a local lady.
Shampoo and conditioner, i tried value it made my hair feel dry, now i'm not saying i'll be spending £5 on shampoo but i think values a step to far in this case, there plenty of nice ones around £1.
Other than that i think we're willing to downgrade pretty much anything.
Oh and i wouldn't wear 2ndhand undies or shoes.DEC GC £463.67/£450

Coffee, most definately coffee! We buy Lavazza, go through just over 1 pack a week, but it's delicious :rotfl:
Shampoo, I use Tresemme. Only ever buy it on offer, a few months back it was down to £1.80 in tesco, I bought every bottle of the kind I use, still using it now :T
We do like a chinese takeaway as wellI've started doing deliveries for a local chinese on a Saturday, and they give you a meal of your choice at the end of the night. So me and DH have been getting a free takeaway every week :j Good for the pocket, bad for the waistline :rotfl:
Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
Is this the OS swearing thread GQ - luxuries? :rotfl:
Really, really interested in folks' answers...
Olives and feta cheese. They are so expensive but I enjoy them. I buy basics and make do with own brand in so much of my shopping but when I can have my olives and feta cheese for lunch I'm a happy bunny dreaming of far away lands... good for the soul0 -
A bottle of wine at the weekend (£2.99 Aldi stuff is fine!).
Aquafresh toothpaste for the kids - we use value but I wouldn't want to risk putting DD off cleaning her teeth!
A roast dinner maybe once a month.
The car - we're down to one but where we live, we couldn't manage without it and when DH gets a job again we will have to have two I think.
The laptop and broadband - although my work pays for these we have an extra lappy as I can't share!
An occasional takeaway.0 -

Oh thats another one, i would be rolling about on the floor in pain if it wasn't for my expensive colgate pro releif toothpaste (really it's shocking how much a toothpaste has helped me), i buy them on 3 for 2 in boots it works out about £7 for 3, hubby likes to use it aswell even tho i by him on offer branded stuff, my kids prefer basic ones as there milder in taste.DEC GC £463.67/£450

Strange how you define your luxuries once you become OS isnt it?
Mine are
Andrex Loo Rolls
Arm and Hammer Toothpaste
McCain Oven Chips (for a quick standby)
Some hair products, but I make them last
And we probably eat more meat than we should - but it tends to be minced beef or chicken breast and I stretch it out.
Hubby hates any tea other than Yorkshire but I could survive on cheaper stuff.0 -
