This appears on the minimins Forum - I thought that the reply from Cambridge was interesting -
Question:- "I am aware CD recommend a minimum of 4 pints of water per day. I see on various forums many CDCs advocating 4 - 6 litres or more per day. Do Cambridge endorse this? As CDCs are actively suggesting this quantity, saying "The more you drink the more you shrink" is there any scientific proof that this is beneficial?"
Reply:-
"As far as the water is concerned, we have no connection with that
phrase, as I am sure you are aware, the forum chat is not endorsed by
the company.
We recommend a minimum of two and a half litres daily, when using any
programme, particularly sole source.
However, once established on the diet, it is perfectly acceptable to
consume three to four litres daily.
Some people, particularly those who were drinking large amounts before
dieting, can drink more than that without any problems.
Everyone's requirement is different.
The thing to remember is to drink the water regularly throughout the
day.
It is not a good idea to go for long periods of the day without
drinking, and then consume large amounts"

Just a quick message to the person hating on CD, I did this diet about 5 months ago and lost 3 stone, I got to 10 stone and now, with healthy eating (which CD taught me) and exersise, i'm down to 9 stone 2. VERY HAPPY. It's an amazing diet and everyone who has seen the weight loss has asked me for the web address.

Some folks just can't understand how/why the diet works
At least we are informed and knowledgeable about the Cambridge Diet and do!0 -
Blimey Cute 'n' Quirky, chill out a bit. Point is, when people experience smaller weight losses, it is usually because they are not drinking enough, and as drinking plenty is an integral part of the diet, I was just trying to help this person out. Like tiredmumof2, I found that the weeks where I drank most were the weeks where I lost most, and every person I have spoken about this to has found the same thing. No there is no scientific proof of this, but at the end of the day, if it works for most, isn't it what's important? It certainly can't do any harm....0

Just reading the posts re drinking water. My CDC told me on Monday night that the more I drink, then the greater weight loss I can expect, but she did say not to go over 6 litres per day.... which for me would be impossible anyway!!!!!0

As Cambridge say, it is a myth
I have been on Cambridge over a year and the water intake hasn't made any difference to me or others.
It is all in the mind
Remember that the mind can be very easily manipulated and tricked.
I work in psychotherapy/counselling/hypnosis
We 'think' we are hungry when we are not
We 'think' that we need food when we don't

You talk about Cambridge like they are God. There may be no proof that drinking more makes you loose more, but there is no proof either of the contrary and they are just covering their backs, that's all.0

Here, for those who are interested, there is actually a small study that says that drinking more water burns a few more calories by increasing the metabolism for a few minutes. So it may not be absolute proof, but no one either has proved anything the other way. And the people at Cambridge know no more about it than most of us.0

I don't think they were saying it was a myth in their answer, more that they consider 2.25L adequate for most people.
I think it's a myth though, and so do many, because research is often contrary on this matter, and the phrase 'the more you drink the more you shrink' actually came about when some people in the States were trying to promote the idea that people should drink 8 glasses of water.
Of course, others took that up to mean that if 8 glasses of water means I lose x amount, then 16 will mean I'll lose 2*x. It just doesn't work like that. Before long there seemed to be a competition on various forums, each seeming to try to beat the other on how much they drunk. Too much can be dangerous and all that.
My stance on the water thing now, is that you drink 2.25L, and if you are thirst or fancy more, then drink more. Easy as that.Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant0 -
Actually it was first posted on minimins by someone there whom had sent the question to Cambridge Head Office. I then took it to Cambridge Forum as it was too important to ignore. That message of mine is still there on the Water Consumption thread on the Cambridge Forum for all to see.
I was not the one whom contacted CHO nor did I fabricate the posting.
I am not really interested in where it was posted first or second.
Fortunately I have more important things to think about than Forums
