  • I think the OP needs a hug. In fact we should all have a group hug.

......... and the wife says I don't do sympathy, pah! :D

.......... although, unbelievable as it may seem, she has said I do sarcasm quite well ;)
  • I have to agree slightly with the OP, but at the same time slightly disagree.

I have seen many people come on here complaining about the massive APR and charges on the payday loans that they have defaulted on, and in those cases they need to be told things like "you took out the loan, you knew the terms, pay it back and deal with it". Yes, its harsh and people could maybe be a little more constructive and diplomatic with the choice of words, but in the main they are right.

However, I have seen people come on here asking for advice on what type of loan they should get for their £20k new car. People the reply to these type of messages with things like "save up" and "£20k is too much for a car, buy a cheaper one" and other unhelpful things which do not aid the OP in getting info on the best loan for their circumstances. If someone wants to spend £20k on a car then thats their business, as long as they can afford it and are aware of the costs. The only time you should be telling people not to spend £20k on a car is when you know what the car is and know that they can get the same car for £18.5k elsewhere!

In my opinion, this board is for seeking advice on loan deals, best loans for certain circumstances, etc and the site in general is not about what you can do to never spend any money, but more about how you can make your money go further and get the best deals, etc. Or have I got totally the wrong idea of this site and this particular part of the forum?

It's only when people come on asking for 20k for a car and then they add nuggets like.....I've had previous bad credit, I am unemployed, I am broke and need a loan for the deposit on the car, I am clinically dead etc etc

    Or
They borrowed me £20k to buy a car. I knew I could not afford to make the payments and they should have too, so how do I make it unenforceable/ mis sold etc. PS I like the car and wish to keep it.

You could elaborate by saying that the car has been repossessed, has been stolen, been written off in an accident, sitting untaxed on a mates drive, stolen by aliens, vanished into thin air etc

I must admit that some people who reply to posts are not very friendly at all.

This is supposed to be a non judgemental site, but some replies are downright rude.

    Everybody's circumstances are different.

In this economic climate, people do fall on hard times through no fault of their own.

Some of us like me wanted some help and advice, yet some people who respond are rude and sarcastic.

When you do threads like the Halifax one then you really are setting yourself up for a big fall.

It's always someone elses fault on these forums.

Responsibility and accountability are big words for some.

I am often blunt on here because being fluffy does not work..
If we can shock just a few people back into the real world and get them to understand that debt is not going to go away or that 20k car they are still paying four years later now worth 5k if they are lucky .and most are young lads (what a way to start your adult life)I consider it a job well done....no hugs from me just cold hard advice that i will never apoligise for.

SOMEONE HAS STOLE £59 FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT......HOW DO I SUE? AND I WAS JUST BROWSING AND NEVER GAVE MY CARD DETAILS OUT...
i wish i had a £ for everyone of these we see...
or how about...PAYDAY LOAN COMPANY I THOUGHT I HAD RIPPED OFF HAVE EMPTIED MY ACCOUNT....
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

A less common theme, but I just can't get out of my head the unfortunate Poster who could not afford his sofa repayments.

He couldn't take it back as :

    A) He wanted his family to think it was fire-damaged and cheap so he had singed it with his lighter.

    B) his uncle soiled it.

He even provided a picture of the sofa for us.

I think the mistake you're making is that what people are advising in these circumstances is not "what you can do to never spend any money" but rather what you can do to "never spend money that you haven't got".

I think it's perfectly reasonable to point out to posters that one of the best ways to "make your money go further" is to spend it on cars, furniture, plasma TVs, and new boobs, when you have enough of it, rather than spending it on interest repayments because you haven't the patience to wait until you do have enough.

Good job it wasn't one of those sofas from the 1970s, that baby would've gone up like a tinder box.
