Plug pulled on Sir Paul McCartney

Last night Sir Paul McCartney joined Bruce Springsteen on stage towards the end of The Boss' headlining performance at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park.
And after he played two songs with The Boss, the plug was pulled. Literally. At the late, late hour of 10:40 on a Saturday night. This left McCartney and Springsteen unable to even thank the 60,000 people who'd got to the show in the pouring rain and stood there ankle-deep in mud all day, and The Boss unable to perform his tribute to the late Clarence Clemons - a tribute that has been performed on every other show to date on his world tour.
Only in Britain could such a performance be summarily cut-off by a combination of pettifogging officialdom and craven promoters. Well done Westminster Council and Hard Rock Calling, you have made London the laughing-stock of the world.
Britain has been the laughing stock of the world for quite a few years now already & anyone who calls there album " kisses on the bottom " must be as interesting as watching paint dry.0 -
Tough luck folks, you're not going to browbeat or abuse me into silence. Some people actually care that this farce is being reported and laughed at globally just a few days before the Olympics start.
10:40. In London. Supposedly one of the world's greatest and most vibrant cities. Pathetic, just pathetic.Je suis Charlie.0 -

I don't want to 'browbeat' or 'abuse' you into silence. I'd like to see you engage in a proper discussion instead of repeating the same tiresome whine over and over. I don't think that's unreasonable. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Maybe there's the other side -There's nothing more annoying than having to leave a gig before it finishes (especially if it has started late) to make sure I can get home by public transport. Perhaps a little consideration for the fans who don't have a stretch limo waiting outside to take them to a nearby five star hotel might be nice.
As for Hyde Park isn't a residential area-I can only assume the posters who think that don't know the area at all.
Still well done Bruce you've probably messed up any leeway on future gigs in Hyde Park. Cheers for that !*twenty-five* minutes overrun? And would have been 45+ if the plug hadn't been pulled? !!!!!! how disrespectful to fans that those who had to catch a train home would be forced to miss the end of the show, and how disrespectful to the promoter to put them in that position and how disrespectful to the local residents for what can only be described as a 'right in the middle of london' venue.
It is a massive shame for the fans, and a bigger shame for everyone else that fingers ar being pointed in every direction but the one they belong in.
I was offered a free ticket to Hyde Park, but I didn't bother going.0 -
Finally someone shut McCartney up! Well done Westminster. I salute you :T:T:T0

I'm with the residents on this.
They LIVE THERE. they can't just move somewhere quieter because a concert has run overtime, they have to put up with it constantly.
I would love to place all the whingers nearby and let them 'enjoy' all the music running later than agreed.
Have a little thought for the people trying to live their lives.
They already got 10 minutes more than they should!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

In reply toThe crowd's ecstasies turn to rage, however, when the PA system is cut silent halfway through a raucous La Bamba; The seminal Springsteen hit.
Or was it the Beatles?
It was a cover of an Isley Brothers song. The Beatles Please Please Me Album (which contained this song) reached number 1 in the album charts and the Twist and Shout EP reached number 2 in the singles charts.
So I think this counts as a Beatles hit:)

According to the news reports, the concert was due to end at 10:15pm and the music was finally stopped at 10:40pm.
It was 25 minutes after the advertised end time, but the licence was until 10:30 so he was 10 minutes outside the licence hence the two different numbers being bounced about.
I think the organisers knew he was likely to overrun whatever end time they gave so they set the end time a bit earlier to give some leeway for an overrun...he not only went over the contracted end time but also over ran the margin they'd built in to the schedule.
It seems that Bruce regularly overruns on purpose...perhaps defying authority makes him feel more 'rockstar'? It's a bit sad when someone of his calibre still needs to do that sort of thing to stroke his ego.
On another note, I really enjoyed Paul Simon on Sunday night and it seems they learned the lesson from Saturday because they started earlier than originally planned and finished on time...now that's professional!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
