  • Hi,

So, thought I would move over here from the miscarriage support thread.

I had a very thorough pelvic scan last weekend, as I believe I have had a third miscarriage, having had a faint positive on a pg test in early january, then weeks of bleeding, spotting and pain.

I went to see the GP this morning to get the results. There's no evidence to support that I have miscarried again, although the GP has agreed to refer me to a specialist anyway.

Apparently my scan does show that I appear to have PCOS. My gp told me there's no link between that and miscarriage, but since I've looked online, it appears that's not correct. looking at the symptoms, it does make a lot of sense to me!

Does anyone have any experience of pcos and recurrent miscarriage?

I don't have specific experience, but I have PCOS and have had one (so far...) miscarriage. However, I was told that PCOS can increase the likelihood of miscarriage from 1 in 3 to 1 in 2. I understand that some doctors will prescribe metformin to help the symptoms of PCOS, and there is a believe that taking it will also decrease the risk of miscarriage, although I'm not sure that metformin is licensed for that use alone.

Either way, so sorry you're going through all this. Hopefully the potential diagnosis of PCOS (they sometimes use blood tests and scans, IME it depends on the doctor you're dealing with) combined with miscarriages will prompt them to do as much as possible to tackle both issues asap. If possible, it might be worth investigating if there are endocrenologists (sp?) who work alongside gynae/obs specialists who deal with miscarriages, as then you have specialists in both areas working together to find a solution.

    Good luck.
  • arrrggggghhhhhh!

sorry, i don't know where else to post this.

One of my 'friends' on facebook posted a scan pic today, and another announced she's pg again (baby was only born in december, and I feel particularly sore because when I was pg the first time I was only a few weeks behind her).

I am waiting for my recurrent mc appointment next month, and feeling like it's just never going to happen for us.

Hi everyone,I hope no one minds me just updating you all.

I really found this board a big help and also the other miscarriage thread when I was going through my miscarriages and the testing afterwards.!

We are just over 13 weeks pregnant now and we have been scanned every week and we had to undergo cvs testing so the placenta tissue could be chromosone tested to see if it was unstable or not. This is because of the problem that was picked up with me when I went for testing following my many miscarriages when back in nov they found I had a problem with my chromosomes and they gave us around 33% chance of having a live baby.!

The results this week came back showing that the babys chromosomes are balanced but she does have the same chromosome translocation as me, and we also found out its a girl as well. So she will be healthy like me but will probably have the same problems conceiving as I have, but im hoping medical science will have more solutions for her by then.!

I admit it has been a very long and hard road getting to this point and its still a long way to go before I get to hold my baby in my arms.!With every scan, every result and all the waiting it has been incredibly stressful, but hopefully now we know the chromosomes are balanced we can relax a bit and move forward.!

Over the last 5 years that we have been trying to have a baby there have been some really dark moments and at times it has felt like we would never get close to having a baby and hopefully things will work out this time.

Thank you so much for the people on here helping out and messaging me when ive come on here feeling really low, from the bottom of my heart I hope you all end up with your happy endings.!
