I mostly take them off at home...all shoes live in our porch anyway so most people would take them off without thinking or being asked. I would never ask somebody too either. My Dad never takes his off at somebodies house...but then he never has dirty soles and will make sure he dries them on a mat if it has been raining outside. I mostly take them off at my mum and dads house or at my grandads house, not because I have to...just because I feel cosy at their houses and I like to sit with my feet up on sofa so must take them off...I always take them off at my friends houses (unless a party) as they would at mine but then I guess we are a generation who grew up taking them off at others houses...I wouldn't take them off at a party though. At all my aunts and uncles houses nobody else does so I don't there...
I guess my rule of thumb is that if the host is bare foot and there are shoes on a rack or by the door uit is pretty obvious that shoes are supposed to be taken off in that house.
At school we had to take them off for assembly...weird! Perhaps this is why kids do it???
A couple of reasons at scool, mostly children sit cross legged, shoes would be rigid and uncomfortable. Also, its often on a specialst sports floor.0 -

Bare feet i like being in...just under no illusion it is cleaner. I sweat through my feet and put damp, inevitable film of dirt onto the floor i step on, plus the other unhygenic things.....i w
K barefoot in myhouse where my doogs walk barefoot. I also walk barefoot in my garden, with the dogs.
I know you say that you're under no illusion that it is cleaner to be in bare feet ......just wonder how the "shoes-off obsessives" handle this.....or dogs & cats - or do they not have any pets?????
Just wondering0 -
It's not that healthy for feet to be cooped up in socks and shoes all day.
Nothing better than walking around barefoot, even better outdoors.0 -
I think the only thing I'd object to, really, would be someone insisting I keep my shoes on.
If I were in someone's home in a professional capacity (not that I ever would be), I might not mind keeping my shoes on, but if I'm there for pleasure, I just feel really odd and uncomfortable wearing shoes in a house. I just think about sitting their on the sofa, maybe I cross my leg across my knee, as I do on occasion and then...OMG! A shoe!
I guess I'm a freak, but it actually makes me shudder a little to think about it. Keeping your shoes on inside is just so alien to me...0 -

Um, what sort of games are you playing with your children that involve licking the floor?0 -
Goodness knows. I think some people worry altogether too much about the presence of germs. Not all of them are harmful and our bodies are usually well-equipped to deal with them without any direct help from us. There's a huge difference between sensible precautions and outright hysteria0

We have beige carpets and everyone takes thier shoes off... We have slippers here for our parents and they use them..
But now and then the carpet need a clean due to traffic..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

Especially seeing as how people who have dogs and cats are quite a good bit healthier and live longer on average than people who don't. And infants who spend their first year in a house with cats are measurably healthier in terms of illness and allergy while infants who spend their first year in a house with dogs are quite significantly healthier. When it comes to infants the reason for this appears to be precisely because our pets track bacteria in and out of the house and when our children are exposed to them their immune system matures faster. Being overly hygienic, especially with young children, is not especially healthy.0 -

Germophobia will probably be the death of all of us, eventually.0 -

You are the one who is over reacting to a rational request.0
