    Hi Fortune

Enjoying your diary. I chop gherkins up and put them in home made potato salad. Adds a nice piquancy and crunch. Although it may be a little cold for potato salad at the moment!

Thanks Cafelady, that's a good idea. Fortunately, gherkins don't go off quickly so I may have to save them for the summer.

  • ...or not. I managed to get home from the gym on Friday just before the first flurries and have been hibernating inside ever since. Mr F was very disappointed yesterday as we only had a light sprinkling of snow but is a happy bunny now as it hasn't stopped snowing all day and we have loads:eek: He went out to play in it with some Landy friends this morning and is regaling me with tales of failed hill climbs and collisions with irresponsible quad bikes  I've sent him out to bring more logs in.

    This weekend's MS:
    • went to Step on Friday. Haven't lost any more weight but am looking slimmer and my clothes are fitting better. Mr F's tummy has shrunk significantly
    • credit cheque from closing the £DF account came - £23.53. That may have to stay in the current account for the minute as it's getting a bit squeaky
    • Haddock, New Potato and Chorizo One Pot for Friday's supper from the meal plan
    • 'Penny' Soup from the meal plan for last night's supper. It's a winter vegetable soup but the sliced vegetables in it look like pennies, hence the name. A very appropriate MS meal I thought :rotfl:
    • Tonight we'll be having Bean and Pasta Stew with Meatballs
    • NSDs all round
    • but no spending means no Tillytidys :(
Mr F will be lighting the fire in a minute and I'm planning to get some admin work done whilst he watches war films.

Yesterday's short cut to happiness. Lying in a hot bubble bath watching the snowflakes flutter down outside the window.

    Stay safe and warm everyone

  • Love the penny soup - definitely :money:

The haddock, chorizo and new pot one pot sounds lovely, I'm going to add it to my next meal plan.

Love popping on to your thread to see what's cooking!

It's an Ocado recipe "Winter Vegetable Soup" - you can find it on their website. Hope you like it.

  • Excrutiatingly slow broadband has kept me from posting for days. A complaint to the telecoms company that is British seems to have speeded things up now although I'm still having problems with email so apologies to anyone waiting to hear from me.

Today I faced up to my embarrassingly high hairdressing bill. I use Micr0s0ft M0n£y to keep track of my spending and ran a report this weekend to see how much I'd spent last year (with closed eyes and gritted teeth) :rotfl:The tragic truth is (confession alert)... with tips included... approximately £950  So, I went in today for my appointment and explained to my hairdresser that I could not justify spending the cost of a small holiday on having my hair done. He is going to send me an email with a proposal on how he can reduce the cost. I also have a recommendation for a freelance lady which would cut the cost to about a quarter. Well there it is in black and white - my bad. I did use my 10% discount Christmas voucher this time but it was still £57.20 for a wash, cut and blow dry
    Other recent spending and saving:
    • met up with a good friend this morning for coffee, a mooch around the market town and lunch - £12.00 spent
    • popped into the fabric shop to get a quote for landing curtains - £478.47. That's with 20% off the fabric at the moment and 10% off the making up. I've done some research and haven't been able to find them cheaper. It's a William Morris fabric called Blackthorn which is quite expensive but I don't want to compromise. The last curtains I bought were for the dining room and they were a compromise which I do regret a bit
    • reviewed the 6 separate tax code notifications Mr F has received over the last 3 days and came to the conclusion that HMRC still do not know their **** from their elbow. Will 'phone them on Saturday and do their job for them
    • lots of admin work at the moment so that's good
    • joined the 0il-Club as they seem to have the best prices at the moment plus you get the same price whatever the amount you order. We're only half filling the tank now as there have been a lot of oil thefts in our area and it limits the amount we stand to lose if we are targeted. This recent cold spat has taken it's toll so we need a bit of a top up
    • Lentil Chilli from the freezer for supper tonight as I am going out with some girlfriends for a drink (really need to spread my socialising out a bit)
Am doing well on the OPs as all the little bits and pieces seem to be adding up quite quickly but this is making progress on the savings very slow. Might have to re-assess to get the right balance.

    It's good to be back

Welcome back and yes I have missed you!

I've also come to the conclusion that I would rather save for exactly what I want rather than compromise. You have to look at it all the time, and if every time you look at it you're thinking you'd rather have gone with the more expensive option. Then it's a waste of money in my opinion.

(Hence why DH finally 'gave in' and bought me Kitchenaid for Xmas - rather than a cheaper less attractive version:rotfl:)
