Mr F had the bacon - I'm pretty much vegetarian but halloumi was a great alternative :) Having someone else cooking breakfast for me was the real treat :D

  • I've had a bit of a thunk and 2017's focus will be:

Our financial goals are still unclear, however, I can continue to save even if I don’t know what I’m saving for. The money can be allocated to the right pot once decisions are made whether that’s for a house move, home improvements or mortgage overpayments. And I can continue to ensure all spends are considered spends. We have a couple of landmark family birthdays to budget for too.

My main focus is to help Mr F transition into his new role. It’s going to be very stressful for him in the first few months as he still has to keep his old job going and there is a lot of travel involved. Date days are going to be important so that he gets a proper break from work and we get to spend some time together.

Health and fitness for both of us is a key priority – mental and physical. We both want to be able to enjoy the freedoms good health allows for as long as possible. Plus Mr F has to meet the physical demands of long haul travel and manage his stress levels. For me the challenge will be the increased time at home on my own.

Along the way we’d like to have adventures and learn stuff.

All of the above will have a financial impact so I think it will be useful to track them here on my diary. I’ll set some SMART goals as I go along. At the moment everything is quite new and we don’t know how it’s all going to pan out.

My first SMART goal is to drink a maximum of 3 cups of coffee a day. This is my usual habit but I did drink an awful lot more over Christmas and I can go off the rails when Mr F is home because he is such a tea monster and I always say yes if he puts the kettle on. I'll have herbal teas in future.

  • We were up at 4.30 am this morning to get Mr F off to the airport. He's quite poorly still and I felt so sorry for him having such an arduous journey ahead. I made sure he was breakfasted, hadn't forgotten anything and took some cold rememdies with him.

As there was nothing more I could do to help after he'd left, I went back to bed and slept very late. I'm hoping I'm not coming down with his bug  My intercostal muscles are not properly healed from the last virus so another cough would be disastrous

Yesterday was spent washing and ironing and getting Mr F ready for the trip. MS efforts were made:
    • the grocery shopping came in under budget. £24.30 to savings
    • £2.60 Tillytidied
    • meals were made using Christmas leftovers

Not an NSD as Mr F bought a bike rack. Unplanned but we won't be able to use the bikes without one.

My heating oil has been delivered. The price has gone up by about £125 per 500 litres compared to this time last year but is about the same as the year before.

Today is my first time alone in the house for weeks so I'm going to make the most of it. There's a little washing to be done plus a cake to bake for WI but I'm not going to do much more than that. My local DC is off on her travels again soon so is popping in this afternoon for a coffee before she leaves. I shall ease into 2017 gently :rotfl:

  • DC arrived yesterday bearing belated gifts! Lovely to have something to open after the event. And nice to see her too, of course, before she goes off on her travels again.

I made Banana Loaf to take to the WI meeting. This is my go to recipe when I have bananas to use up as it takes 3 to 4. I didn't have pecans so used walnuts instead. I think it was a good one as there was none left to bring home! ;)

Today has been a marathon ironing session. Having concentrated on getting Mr F's clothes washed and ironed for his trip, I found I was running out of smalls!

I've also taken the decorations down - I think :o I haven't put the boxes back in the attic yet because there's always something I forget which then usually lives in the dresser until Christmas comes around again.

The bike rack has been delivered so I'd better psyche myself up for another bike ride when Mr F gets back.

It's been an NSD and I've Tilly-tidied the accounts.

Leeky Salmon in a Parcel for supper tonight. Easy to do for one but I've put it in the oven as I prefer that to the microwave.

Are the days getting longer or is that wishful thinking?
