Thank you my lovely friends in the box. So nice to come home to all your supportive comments.

I am feeling a little more ambivalent about things now. Work was lovely today. The sun was shining and it was so relaxing walking through the countryside. The team stayed on and had a couple of drinks together after and we had a good laugh.

Then, when I got home my lovely new neighbour appeared over the fence and we had a chat about the party last night. I said I thought her friends were lovely and she said they thought I was lovely too. Nice to hear that as I was beginning to think I was some sort of monster :rotfl:

I am meeting a fabulous friend in London tomorrow for lunch and a bit of culture. Can't wait to see her - she is the most positive, caring person I know. Sunshine in human form.

My DC is coming to stay on Wednesday night too and she has also been very supportive.

So I'm surrounding myself with wonderful real and virtual friends (that's you lot :D) and everyone else can do one!

  • Thank you Gally. Still thinking I could have had a fabulous holiday with the wedding money... in fact, haven't handed over most of it yet. Always wanted to go to Cuba :rotfl:

Such a lovely day in London yesterday with my kind, positive friend. She is such a tonic.

We walked along the river to Tate Britain, had lunch in the Member's Rooms (friend is a member) and spent the afternoon in the company of Hogarth, Hockney, Turner and Rossetti. (My friend particularly adores John Singer Sargent, hence the title of my post.) It was wonderful to get close to the paintings and see the brush strokes. I left feeling very inspired. We finished the day with a glass of wine outside the cafe and put the world to rights. Bliss.

Not a cheap day but it raised my spirits so worth every penny:
    • parking at the station
    • train fare
    • a coffee on the train
    • free entry
    • friend bought lunch
    • I bought coffee and cake in the morning and wine in the afternoon
    • picked up a birthday card and small present for lovely new neighbour
    • bought myself a couple of little momentoes of the visit
    • a bottle of water and a paper for the journey home

I could have made my own coffee for the train of course, taken water with me and read the paper on line. But I decided to have the extra indulgences this time.

I bought myself a funny art mug and a new notebook to carry around. You might remember that I did a creative writing session at WI last year and was intending to give it a go. I did give it a go and I had a short story published! I have a number of other stories in the pipeline and I have hopes for those too. I always carry a little notebook around with me now so that I can jot down my ideas.

If you would like to read my story you can find it here https://www.pennyshorts.com/stories/humour/knit-one-purl-one-slip-one-curse-one/. Penny shorts are free to read but you have to register to access the site. This is because the authors get paid according to how many people read their work so they need to track activity. Hope you like it :D

Rounded off the day at Knitting Club. Took a bottle of Prosecco from the wine rack but, despite this, managed to finish a chunky scarf I've been working on :T

Hope your week has got off to a good start

I've had a lovely pottery day today. Got lots of chores done in the morning so gave myself the afternoon to do some painting.

My friend proffered a challenge yesterday prompted by a painting by Harold Gilman called 'Mrs Mounter at the Breakfast Table'. As well as Mrs Mounter you can see a teapot, milk jug and cups and saucers. We both loved the way these were painted and so we decided to have a go at a teapot ourselves. Here's the end result https://www.facebook.com/BeeGardenArt/ Lovely to put brush to canvas.

I made Veg & Cheesy Rice Bake for supper. One of my favourite recipes and fabulous for using up a courgette glut. There's plenty left over for when my DC comes round tomorrow.

I have a courgette in the raised bed :j

I'll be doing the grocery shop tonight. I have £60 in John Lewis vouchers I'll use towards it and the money saved can go to the house deposit fund.

I turned down a offer to spend time with a friend today who's become quite toxic. I've decided it's time to kondo some people from my life.

    Hump day tomorrow people!

Just caught up - sorry to hear about the pre-wedding issues :( Big birthday celebrations for DS and the helicopter ride sound fab, though (I want to go on one - might suggest I for my 50th) - as does the day in London with lovely friend :)

I think it's a wise thing to do to spend time with those who appreciate us and not with those who take more than they give (in terms of friendship) on a continual basis. xx

It's very tempting Rt :D The detoxing is going to be difficult because of proximity and overlapping relationships. Plus, as soon as I made the decision to extricate myself they seemed to want my company even more!

    A very productive day today:
    • lots of housework done
    • made some final adjustments to some paintings
    • opened an Etsy shop to put them in
    • transferred the savings from this week's shopping to the house deposit fund. It turns out I had £80 in vouchers :j so we're now up to 7% of target :T

DC is staying tonight. We're having leftover Cheesy Rice Bake for supper and she is bringing a large amount of rhubarb with her :rotfl: I've no idea how she ended up with such a lot of rhubarb. Anyhow, that will be pudding sorted as I have Rhubarb & Custard Crunch in mind.

Must harvest the courgette tonight - it seems to be doubling in size every 24 hours :rotfl:

    Speak soon
