The house feels very quiet today now all our guests have gone. Mr F was very busy today too so I was been banned from the study. Bored with my own company I spent the day out and about doing chores:
    • Step class this morning
    • leftover pate and cheeses for lunch
    • popped into the market town. Picked up some coffee as we'd run out  plus a loaf of crusty bread for Mr F as I know it's his favourite - £5.99
    • got some paint tester pots. Mr F has decided to take next week off and says we are decorating the living room. Print Room Yellow is favourite so far :) - £11.85
    • posted a Fleabay sale. 2 of my 4 items sold so that'll be and extra £40 ish
    • stopped off at the garden centre on the way home to get netting for my strawberries. I transplanted them to a bigger tub this year and I think they like it. We've never managed to get any fruit from them before so I don't want the birds to get them. Mr F ate the first one today. May have accidently bought a tin of biscuits whilst in the garden centre. It has a picture of a Land Rover on the front and I thought Mr F could use it to keep his receipts in - £10.98
    • we ate the last of the Banana Cakes this afternoon :o
    • my drawer knobs arrived. I've fitted 4 of them but 6 will need longer screws. Think they're going to look good.
    • Jamie's Courgette Carbonara from the meal plan for supper tonight with courgettes from the garden. Followed by the last of the trifle :o
So £6.98 in unbudgeted spends today but all on Mr F and I think he deserves a little treat every now and then.

We finally have some rain to benefit the garden and are looking forward to a cooler night tonight.

    Happy Monday all

Fortune - you've answered a question for me. I was wondering whether the areas that had had the rain, were now *freshened up* as it were. We've still got the heat, which still seems to be building, building, building - *sigh*. And yes, I know I shouldn't complain, and it is summer afterall, but I just wish it would at least break, and then it can start building again for the next rain shower :D

How is you commissioned art piece going? The vehicular one?

    Hi Greying

it has been much cooler here the past couple of days with a few drops of rain here and there. Our little hamlet seems to have escaped the torrential downpours in the area - they seem to have been very localised.

I'm still waiting for approval on the preliminary sketch of the Landie so must chase that up. In the meantime, I've been asked to do an Aston Martin for a Christmas present so will be starting that in the next few weeks. I don't post any work in progress pictures of commissions as I think the owner should be the first person to see them. A local vineyard has said they might be interested in some wine related pictures for their on-site shop too so lots of opportunities.

Mr F got paid today so the monthly money shuffle has been completed. Budget wise I went a little over on the entertainment side (surprise, surprise) and managed an extra £135 on the mortgage. Other MS news:
    • DC bought me a huge bag of cherries at the weekend. We'd eaten loads and hadn't really made a dent in them so it was into the gin with them this morning ;) Also made Rhubarb & Ginger Vodka from my special recipe book with rhubarb from the garden. It's a good way to use up any that has gone a bit woody. I put a single blackberry in to give it a pale pink colour
    • made Salmon Noodle Soup from the meal plan for lunch today. Plenty left for my lunch tomorrow as well - Mr F is off to Paris for work
    • buyer arrived to collect a Fleabay item - £35 now burning a hole in my purse
    • line dried a washing load
    • the hurricane tea lights arrived so I've put them in their new home in the dining room - they look fab :)
    • planted some autumn/winter salad stuff in the raised bed
    • installers came to finish off the oil tank
    • Leek & Bacon Risotto from the meal plan for supper. The leftovers will do for my supper tomorrow whilst Mr F is away
I'm now thinking I might go back to my original plan of a washer/dryer. I'm fed up with having a tumble dryer in the guest room. I was put off having one by a friend who hates hers but we only use ours for sheets, towels and the occasionally emergency - when the laundry basket stops working and Mr F runs out of pants  I've been looking at a Bo$ch as I've already got their products in the kitchen and am very happy with them. However, their latest model is 4cm deeper than my current model so it will stick out a bit. It will match the existing items though. Oh - what to do?

Hey Fortune - ooh, wasn't angling for a peeksie :D Was just wondering if the work was coming along OK, as I think you encountered a little problem at the beginning? Perhaps I got confused - 'tis likely :D

And cherries, wrapped in alcohol....... mmmmmmmmmmm :D

  • Hi fortune, I've a washer dryer because of space issues. It's fine for light / occasional use such as you describe.

    Thanks for the courgette recipes.

We've grown them for the first time this year, and have been pleased with the results.

We've only the one plant, but will increase this for next year, so the recipes will be handy for then

I've got a washer dryer. We've had this model since 2006 and it has performed well.

We haven't got room in our kitchen for separate appliances, and like you say, I wasn't keen on having the dryer in a bedroom, or the garage for that matter.

We don't use it that often for drying, but it has been useful.

I do usually put work in progress on my B££ Gard£n Art FB page so lots of people have been asking why I've gone quiet on there - it's so unusual for me to be quiet you see :rotfl:You are absolutely right - I struggled to get the radiator grill right but managed it in the end.

Someone gave me a bottle of blackberry wine at the weekend too. Shame we're almost teetotal in the Fortunate household - hic! :rotfl:

Thanks inod - I appreciate the advice. I got Mr F to pull my existing washing machine out a bit last night so I can see if I could live with the sticking out. My friend says hers makes the clothes smell of rubber?

    Hi Goldiegirl

I planted 2 courgettes this year but the slugs got one  The remaining plant is doing very well though and has provided plenty of veg for just the 2 of us.

Thanks for the advice about the washer/dryer. Our kitchen just hasn't been designed with any space for a dryer so ours has been in the guest room since we moved in (Mr F will not have it in the garage!). It's very old and has a hose so I have to open a window every time I want to use it - fine in the Summer but a pain in the Winter.

The more I think about it the more I might just go for it
