New to Ebay and buyer has opened a case
Comments

I bought a games console through ebay last year, it travelled around the country for three months before I received it. I kept in regular contact with the seller and never considered opening a case because I knew he had sent it and it therefore wasn't his fault - although there are a lot of ebayers that may not be so forgiving. The address Paypal provides is usually 'verified', check the transaction on Paypal to see if it is. I recommend you print your address labels using Paypal where possible because any errors are then not your fault. See if you can get proof of delivery from the PO, in the case I described Royal Mail said it had been delivered and produced a signature that wasn't mine or the seller's. If the buyer really wants the item, this can be resolved as you will eventually find the packages. If they just want a refund, to avoid getting a bad rep you'll just have to refund and hope that your claim for compo from the PO goes through.
Good luck0 -

I think perfume isn't covered because your not supposed to send it through the post or some nonsense like that. I could be wrong though.
Well that's good. I hope you manage to get it sorted. Good luck.
There is a page on the RM website which specifies a whole collection of items which are NOT covered unless sent Special Delivery.0 -
Depends what the buyer sold and if it is covered by RM.
Did you send it normal, recorded or special?
I recently sold a perfume which went missing, which was not covered by RM because it was not sent special delivery. Doh!
Hope you manage to get it sorted though. Let us know how you get on.
Perfume (flammable) is restricted, so it can only be sent by RMT, which is not a counter service.0 -

But what about all the other shed loads of people that sell it and post it out 2nd class normal?
PS. Wow, you so clever! How do you know all this information? Is there a manual I can read?

Its all trial and error, many of us have been selling for years.
AS for using the wrong service, lots of people take the risk- I do. All my stuff goes UK 2nd class and 99.99% arrives safely. If i happened to use say 2nd class for a cheap perfume (and I don't sell perfume!) I would accept the risk of not being able to claim if it gets lost.
It's all to do with risk and comfort level. Virtually everything I sell goes either 2nd class or standard parcel in the UK and airmail overseas. When items go for more than £46 I do not offer them overseas at all, and for the UK I would use special delivery.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. People take chances. It's only when you need to claim you come a cropper.
I post circa a thousand parcels a week, but before my wholesale/retail (self employed) job I was a (what you may call over here) a contracts writer? I used to find the holes in contracts so that companies wouldn't be sued. It wasn't in this country and English is not my first language, but it all adds to the fun!0 -
And I hasten to add, so that makes me a stickler for detail! But mostly because your language is so 'loose' one thing can mean so many others!i don't meant be picky, but i don't have your relaxed attitude to text (not always through choice as sometimes I just don't understand the slang!)0

Seriously, English is not your first language? English is my first language (in fact it is my only language) and you put my English to shame!

Why would ebay let them open a case when they haven't sent an item not received message and gave me the chance to look into it for them? Is this normal practice?
Many thanks
Have you checked your message box on ebay?0
