I agree with hermum - asking if an item as arrived is pointing out to the buyer that you don't know. So not a good idea.

If this was genuine - the buyer would have contacted you first. It as all the hallmarks of a scam.

Despite what Crownqueen says - you CAN make them wait. If a buyer as the decency to contact me FIRST - i refund them after a reasonable time. If they open a case instead - they end up waiting longer - as i always respond on the very last day.

Dont tell the buyer you are waiting for money into your account. They didnt have the decency to tell you what was happening. Just respond through the case that you are contacting Royal Mail - and use the time the case allows to get your money into your paypal account ASAP.
  • Thanks to both hermum and techspec for your input and I am glad someone understands where I'm coming from.

I know unless I track down the parcels, I am doomed. I will try them again this morning. Busy all day today, but will update you when I can.

If they are lost you can claim from RM with your COP.
If as it sounds the buyer claims lots of INR then I would try & put in nicely, that you've alerted RM to their plight, suggesting that RM checks out the postie. Or something similar, it could be that the items will then turn up.
Did they pay in one invoice & therefore expecting just one parcel or did they know it would be two separate parcels?

OK, check with the delivery office - but if they're not there the OP has to refund. There might be problems at OP's end and with OP's depot.

I didn't say not to check with the DO; I warned them that relying on other people paying to give the buyer a refund isn't a good strategy when selling on ebay.

Also I've had a number of items go missing already this year; certainly more than two. Bullying the buyer into dropping the case isn't going to solve any problems, whether it is at OP's end or the buyer's.

If my account was marked every time I'd had an INR since 2010, you'd probably think I was a scammer too.

Have you had two parcels from the same seller go missing at the same time? I must be lucky, I've only ever had two INR one each as a buyer & a seller.
I don't know where you get the idea that anyone is trying to bully the buyer into dropping the case.
The OP hasn't said they don't want to refund.
It does sound as though the buyer gets quite a lot of INR, it may be that he's unfortunate. (I know soolin's Mum has had problems with her post.) It could be that he likes to push his luck especially if he happens to come across a new seller.
Until the OP can get through to the DO there's no point in initiating a refund.

Still haven't managed to get through to them, going out shortly, so I will have to try this afternoon.

Originally it was one package, but I underestimated the postage and the cheapest option for me was to send it in two separate parcels. I emailed them as soon as it was in the post, explaining that it was two packages. They didn't respond.

If the items can't be tracked down, I will certainly provide Royal Mail with all the necessary information to investigate. I appreciate that things go missing, but two to the same address? Something not right there.

I intend to refund! At no point have I said otherwise. I'm just not being intimidated into refunding on the basis of one email.

I'm afraid the buyer will just have to wait until the 20th July for a response. If I have a definitive answer from Royal Mail before then, I will contact them.
  • Still no joy getting through to the delivery office, will keep trying.

Interestingly I have tracked down the buyers selling account. Will keep an eye on it to see if any of the 'missing' items appears.

If you still have your certificate of posting, you will be able to claim from RM, but only £46 for each parcel, I hope that covers it.

Depends what the buyer sold and if it is covered by RM.

Did you send it normal, recorded or special?

I recently sold a perfume which went missing, which was not covered by RM because it was not sent special delivery. Doh!

Hope you manage to get it sorted though. Let us know how you get on.

Normal post, but I will be covered. After all, if RM have lost both parcels, they need to cough up.

I think perfume isn't covered because your not supposed to send it through the post or some nonsense like that. I could be wrong though.
