MSE News: O2 network down: How to use your mobile and will I get compensation?

Compared to the RBS outage, this really is nothing.
Yes I'm annoyed. My new giffgaff SIM arrived last night, as did my new phone which I bought from the USA and requires a fair bit of hacking to even make it work in the UK, so I wasted several hours baffled as to why what I was doing would not work, before I even found out about the outage. I had, as it turns out, done everything correctly the first time!
But meh.. these things happen to any information technology system, and O2 have gotten it together amazingly quickly considering the size of their operation.0 -
Just had to reboot mine about 6 times before it would make the connection. Finally it worked!0

this really isn't such a big deal - MSE should stop pushing the whole 'compo' thing - we will all end up paying for it somewhere along the line.
I didn't even notice on my mobile -I have been with o2 since 1994 - they were cellnet then (having dropped the BT when they sold off to securicor) I can't remember a single outage since - technology just sometimes fails - end of story.
all this whining for nothing and now the "compo" claims - disgusting.0 -

Totally agree, people could always use that ancient piece of technology.. THE LANDLINE!
Seriously, is this country really turning into the compo culture of the USA?
I've also always been with o2 (apart from flirting with a Virgin for a while.. lol) to be honest I only noticed when I saw loads of people commenting on facebook about o2 being down.
I can understand business users being compensated for loss of business etc. but the idea of people wanting compensation for not being able to make a call just sickens me tbh..
Its been off for a day, its not the end of the world. Or maybe this is what the Mayans were predicting for 2012, floods and loss of mobile service for day...?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

I spoke to 02 who told me that they wouldn't do anything about the £10.99 I'd spent on the vodaphone sim, nor would they refund the 25p it cost to find out why my phone wasn't working as their customer services number is a 25p charge. I told them I wanted my PUC code if that were the case. They didn't care, just gave it to me. I was spending circa £100 a month on a single phone contract with them and was quite disgusted by their 'oh well' attitude.
I will be moving to Hutchinson 3 today.
Get a fully fledged Satnav rather than 3g assisted then; and have your appointments synched to your device not just 'in the cloud'...0 -
Or a phone that doesn't need 3G for the sat nav to work.0

In thoe old days we used maps or asked someone for directions if we got lost :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It's not just about the money0

I think I remember reading somewhere that O2 'promises' 99% reliability - which means that the service would have to be 'out' for 3.65 days in order for them to be considered in 'breach' of contract!
As it was, the majority of the UK were asleep for the most of the time the 'outage' was happening. It's really quite sad that there were so many people being quite so abusive about the loss of ability to text / tweet / fb their friends at a whim!0 -
Does MSE understand that compensation comes from somewhere, and not a big hole. Prices go up, and this is why their is service agreements to cover down time.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
-
20 million people not being able to use their phones is not a little thing! Network outage that this scale means something is seriously wrong.
They got on the problem quickly, and if it was a burglary as suspected then it's more or less out of their control.
Also:8.4 You can end this Agreement by giving us Notice (in line with paragraph 19) if:
(a) we break this Agreement in any material way and we don’t correct the breach within 7 working days of receiving your written request;
(b) we go into liquidation or a receiver or administrator is appointed over our assets;
(c) we increase our Charges in a way that would allow you to end the Agreement under paragraph 5.3 and/or 5.4; or
(d) we change the terms of this Agreement to your significant disadvantage.
So no, nobody's being let out of their contracts.urs sinserly,
