Why do people exect delivery tomorrow but pay for 2nd class?

I don't think it's terribly strange - you put 3 working days on your dispatch timetable, therefore buyer thought they would ask politely for it to be sent ASAP. They wouldn't know whether you mean 3 days or you mean to post immediately.
For some buyers, it's 'don't ask, don't get'.
The issue is what happens when they do ask but don't get, like today a customer who needs their item for a birthday present on the day it's going to be posted...In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Has anyone else noted the patronising little message you get if you use eBay postage and don't use 1st class?
I printed a label today for collect plus (yes I know, stupid me, but at 4.1 kg and only £12 value I had no choice). I put the weight in and opted for collect plus and this message popped up along the lines of
" this postal service may not meet the buyers expectation of delivery times and we recommend you choose a different option"
Blooming cheek, I listed this as collect plus and the buyer bought knowing that, why are eBay getting bolshy about it? If they don't like collect plus why are they working with them and integrating it in the eBay checkout service?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have just bought an item and as always paid immediately. The listing states that postage runs are on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, delivery estimated within 3-4 days. I won the item at about 8pm on Wednesday 11th, so would have expected it to be posted on Friday 13th. To date, it still hasn't arrived and is showing as despatched on 16th.
They're going to get marked down for delivery.0 -

This has happened to me several times but when i eventually got the parcel it was date stamped as sent when expected but royal mail took an age to deliver, I felt it wasnt fair to mark down the seller for that ( i would be upset if i was marked down and not my fault).
My listings always end on a saturday afternoon so cant post them until monday morning, gives me a bit of time to pack and get things sorted out.0 -
Depending on what service was used Friday it hasn't been long enough yet to be a problem surely?I have just bought an item and as always paid immediately. 2nd class Friday might well arrive today, it is only Wednesday. Despatch is despatch- it is not delivery and that is what half these threads are about- buyers who mistake delivery with despatch.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Poster is saying it was despatched on the 16th - which is after the postal run she would have caught by paying for it - that is, on Friday.Depending on what service was used Friday it hasn't been long enough yet to be a problem surely?

I don't think she is wrong tbh, I think it would deserve a 4. Payment on Wednesday night should have caught Friday's postage."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

2-300 orders a day before that one to post. The issue is the dispatch process is simple and such requirements complicate it which damages efficiency and reduces the number of orders out the door.
The price paid doesn't reflect a prompt posting, for example with Amazon and Play you can have free delivery and wait a few days for dispatch by second class post or pay for faster dispatch and 1st Class post. Basically they are profiting from those who wish to have the item quicker, you pay for a premium service.
I do send by 1st Class post but 3 days is the dispatch time, if it can be done quicker of course it will. (I'm not twiddling my thumbs all day, I'm working hard to get everything done, OK I'm spending time posting here but it's like a coffee break rather than working 12 hours solid).
I think the general advice is to ask questions before purchasing and I would rather have the opportunity to say unfortunately we can't meet the requirement and not have the sale than an unhappy customer. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

I am well aware of the difference between despatch and delivery. However, the sellers listing (business seller, not private) states that items will be despatched on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I won this item a week ago, on a Wednesday. Therefore, I would have expected it to be despatched on the following Friday. It was despatched on the Monday. If sellers can't adhere to their own timescales, I am entitled to mark them down for slow despatch and late delivery.0 -
What was the dispatch time frame on the P&P tab and what time on Weds did you pay?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
