I expected 3 items that I purchased on Wed. to have arrived by today but only 1 has. Surely that isn't too much to ask. It said courier 48 hours.

It depends on the despatch time that seller stated. If for instance they said 2 day despatch time then that could mean despatch yesterday? So adding the 48 hour courier on top of that would mean your item likely to arrive Monday or Tuesday next week.

Looks like Ebay are medling again.

I just went to put my usual 5 days dispatch time (even though i post next day) - and it pointed out that above 3 days is an "exceptional time".

Looked it up on google - and anything higher than 3 days dispatch will soon be highlighted to buyers - so they can avoid them

Tough look if your a casual seller who posts once or twice a week OR sell personalized or made to measure items.

Its actually ok for me - as i post next day anyway. I just added the extra days to allow for emergencies - in case i get an unreasonable buyer. But starting to put 3 days instead of 5, will probably increase my bids. :D

I saw that yesterday when I was getting the really awful eBay 'sell your item ' format. I suppose at least it should go some way towards pacifying those sellers who do only post infrequently and who believe that eBay do not highlight the fact that sellers state a despatch time in their listings

When you were buying you will have been given the expected delivery time - which included dispatch time. It will still show - if you view the order details in my Ebay. Its 48 hours from time of posting.

You also have failed to allow for the fact that many couriers still don't deliver weekends. 48 hrs = 2 full working days (still classed by many as mon-fri) from day of dispatch.

If posted next day (which is fast) - earliest i would expect it is Monday. The fact one of the suppliers managed to get it out same day is irrelevant.

This is the problem, people think Sunday is a working day and that couriers come on Saturday - they do for an extra £20 or something daft.

That being said, Yodel came yesterday and left 4 suitcases I had ordered, in boxes, in my back garden. Today they came to deliver our new dog bowl (no signature required) and we was out walking the dog and all they left was a card. It does not even have a tracking number on it - we have no idea where it is!!

@Tech - Glad to see that, actually.

Amazon mandate a 2-day dispatch, so there's no reason eBay should be much different.

I wouldn't sell if I didn't have the time to post promptly. I don't think it's reasonable to sit on someone's money for five days without sending the item. You wouldn't do it with anyone else who was paying you to do something.

It may help people realise their actual responsibilities. If you can't post out promptly, then don't list in the first place.

This postage business seems to be a nighmare for sellers.

I bought 2 heavy items the other week from different sellers.

Same dimensions and same weight, Why does one charge £7.50 and one charges £12?
£12 one arrives 48 hours later the £7.50 one arrives on the 5th or 6th day.

Must ne a nightmare to please everyone, We all want to get it now but pay nothing for
    it.

Didn't know that about Amazon - but it does explain why everything i order arrives so quickly.

Should mean us folk who post fast get some credit.

I agree - highlighting dispatch times is not a bad thing - as many people don't even see it - dispite an estimated delivery time clearly appearing on the auction and again at checkout.

For my business it is getting worse all the time and people are getting increasingly demanding.

This evening I had someone contact me to say 'Where is my x - I need it for Friday' which sounds reasonable until I looked at the sales record to see that they bought it on the 27th June and didn't pay until Monday night so it was dispatched on Tuesday so I calmly responding saying it was posted on Tuesday as their payment wasn't made until 12 days after they purchased their item.

The best one for today was a phone call at 7.25 am - yep that's 7.25 am to find out when their order would arrive as they received a dispatch note on Wednesday pm and it hadn't arrived when they had got up this morning and then they admitted that their post doesn't even arrive until mid afternoon.

You've got to love eBay buyers - NOT!

This is something, that as a frequent buyer, I'd never do!

I'm up now, I'm in the office now (and have been for about half an hour) and I'm making phonecalls now (mostly to the East end of Russia and about to do the 1st Armenian company one), but I'd never call a person/company before about 9am for fear of invading their privacy, unless I have specific permission to do so!

I certainly wouldn't call private individuals/mobile phones on a Sunday, either!
