Why do people exect delivery tomorrow but pay for 2nd class?

I am a casual seller - 10-20 items a month at the moment really.
When I list I have a 3 day for dispatch time noted on my items and eBay quote delivery as 4-5 days (I assume because of the 1st class postage time added on so it says delivery 4-5 days) but I've had 2 neutrals this week - the first ones ever - for 'not sent quick enough'. Don't people read?? And why should they be allowed to leave feedback like that when the goods are sent in good time. !!!!!! is wrong with people??
And other things that have been paid for say 'need this by [yesterday usually] please send ASAP'.
Now as a casual seller but these comments from people are really p*ssing me off now - not everyone has access to the Post Office on their doorstep and the quoted delivery time would make that kind of obvious, don't you think. I;ve started offering 2nd class and now I am getting 'please send ASAP, need it urgently' and then only paying for 2nd class postage.
What the hell is wrong with people? Why have they got just SO impatient?? Last year I was selling 100 items a month for a few months (I am a terrible hoarder) and I've never had a mark down on delivery times, nothing has changed so why are people now moaning? I could understand it if the items were sent late but they are not and they could simply check the postage label before leaving their comments if the parcel took ages to get to them.
Is anyone else finding the same thing?? When I buy if it arrives before the expected time then fab, if not it does not matter as they quoted me delivery of a week, why would I be pushing the sender to send and then complaining when it takes said amount of time?

For my business it is getting worse all the time and people are getting increasingly demanding.
This evening I had someone contact me to say 'Where is my x - I need it for Friday' which sounds reasonable until I looked at the sales record to see that they bought it on the 27th June and didn't pay until Monday night so it was dispatched on Tuesday so I calmly responding saying it was posted on Tuesday as their payment wasn't made until 12 days after they purchased their item.
The best one for today was a phone call at 7.25 am - yep that's 7.25 am to find out when their order would arrive as they received a dispatch note on Wednesday pm and it hadn't arrived when they had got up this morning and then they admitted that their post doesn't even arrive until mid afternoon.
You've got to love eBay buyers - NOT!0 -
Some sellers seem to spoil us. With superfast delivery times.
Quite a few times i have ordered items even upto 4pm and its arrived the next day.
People assume thats normal and not a rare thing.
I was waiting for one item after ordering several all at the same time. Logged into ebay and it didnt have the £ sign saying i had paid for it.
Had this a while ago so logged into paypal, Only this time no trace in paypal either. Oops did someone forget to click confirm on the payment page?
Item took a fair few days to arrive, But as i forgot to pay for several days then i cannot really complain.
Its annoying when something arrives from China before an item you bought at the same time from a UK seller though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The normal favourite is waiting 10 days to pay & then demanding immediate delivery!
Thankfully not everyone is like that.0 -
Nowadays customers want things now and don't like to wait. A lot of customers almost certainly don't take any notice of your dispatch times either, particularly if they are using ebay on mobiles or ipads. Unfortunately if you can't offer fast dispatch then at some point your feedback and stars will suffer. That goes for casual sellers as well as professional sellers.
I do get the occasional buyer paying for 2nd class and then saying they need it quickly so I just offer them to chance to pay the extra for 1st class or it gets sent by 2nd anyway.
Some 2nd class deliveries do actually arrive next day and most within 2 or 3 days.0 -

It is always the late payers that want things urgently, the moment someone starts to get into day 4 before payment I just know I am going to get the email saying 'will I get this tomorrow as it is for my mums birthday?'Nowadays customers want things now and don't like to wait. I'm lucky in that a large percent of my 2nd class and standard parcel items arrive next day, I do appreciate though that this is unusual so try to be patient when I buy things myself.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I put 5 days dispatch - but ALWAYS post same or next day.
Since i started doing this - no complaints - just pleasant surprise at the speed.
Probably loses me money though - as people will look elsewhere for faster sellers. But got fed up when the post was delayed - they are too quick to moan to you. And most still think 1st class means next day delivery. It doesn't.
And you right - most of the ones who say "will i get this tomorrow" (after they have bought it) - choose 2nd class on checkout.0 -
I've also found from my feedback that most of the items I despatch via 2nd class mail arrives next day - seemingly regardless of what part of the UK mainland.
In the past, I've also experienced airmail items arriving next day in France and Denmark, to the delight of the buyers.
At the other end of the spectrum, unfortunately there are some pretty irresponsible people about, bidding on eBay. It does amuse me when someone wins an auction on a Sunday, then ignores the invoice, finally pays on a Thursday and immediately follows it up with an email stating that they have been waiting for the item and want it urgently!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

We have a new 'super' sorting office around 30 miles away. If the postie tries to deliver a parcel and you are not in you have to leave 24 hours before collecting now, not 4 hours like before.
And 1st class postage takes at least 2 days, not sure how long 2nd class takes, but the post is definitely taking longer since the SO moved.0 -
Ive had a couple of people like this - expecting next day....on a bank holiday!
And someone moaning I hadn't posted something next day despite my 3 day despatch time (I was at uni all day so no way of going to po)
I find 2nd class stuff gets there next day too.The Fields are Green, The sky is blue, the River Nene goes winding through, The market square is Cobblestoned, It shakes the old dears to their bones, A finer town you'll never see, A finer town they'll never be, Big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be!0 -
I don't. I expect 2nd class post to arrive in 3-4 days.
However, my last 2nd class post item took eleven days, and it arrived five days after I sent a polite email to the seller enquiring about the non-arrival. I'm not giving that seller 5* for how quickly the item arrived.0
