Jenjen, I've just finished my NCT classes. They started when I was 32 weeks and there was 18 hours in total. We paid £180 and opted out of becoming a member which saved us a little bit of money. We also took the option of paying over 3 months.
I will be going to the NHS ones which start this Saturday (2 days of 2 hours each) when I will be 37 weeks.
Personally, I found the NCT classes brilliant. There were 6 other couples who were all lovely and all the girls have arranged to meet up next week, even though the classes are finished. Although there was structure to the classes, it seemed very conversation-led so we covered exactly what we wanted. The local breastfeeding counsellor took one of the sessions who was a bit brainwashy but other than that, I would really recommend them as they covered what I wanted to know, and I now have a support group of local mums-to-be in my area.
The only reason I'm going to the NHS classes as well is that they are run by the midwives at my hospital so should be hospital-specific.

When did the NHS classes get mentioned to you all? I'm at 20 weeks (had my scan) and no-one has mentioned any antenatal classes at all. I've booked NCT ones in any case (months ago!) but would really like to tour the hospital which I'm sure will only happen on the NHS ones.
The last session of our NCT course is a hospital tour, but you can also book them seperately at our hospital. We're doing the NCT course mostly for the social side as I don't know anyone apart from work friends in our new town. Ours is 2 Saturdays and 3 evening sessions, and it came to £220 including membership (£40). I'd say we probably saved 40 quid on the stuff we got ay the neatly new sale a few weeks ago, so glad we got membership as when they opened to the general public it was mayhem but we were already queuing up to pay!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -

When I had my booking in appointment I was given one of those clear folders which had a leaflet about the classes which you basically just filled in and gave to your midwife. However, I got the same leaflet in the post from the midwives but with dates on it for the next class which I just gave back to the midwife at my next appointment. I think every where is different to be honest as a lot of people are saying they need to book appointments and classes themselves whereas in my area the mw do it all for you. I would just contact your mw and ask her about it to be on the safe side.
With regards to tours not every where do them. My hospital dont as its a fire hazard (according to the mw) so we basically got to look at two lamenated pictures of what the labour ward looks like!!!
Cant remember who was asking about bags, but so far I have a wheelie case for baby girl (hand luggage size) and I am hoping to get all my crap into a holdall. Dh is also taking a bag with all his things in it.0 -
hello ladies!
good day for me, first I bought a tankini in the sale at jojo maman bebe for £5 delivered:money: (I'd link but always manage to mess it up somehow but it's just in their maternity sale section) and secondly I had my 20 weeks scan and I've got a baby boy on the way:D
Saw a couple of nurseries too, am shattered now so haven't read back but hope everyone is ok xxx0 -
Evening ladies,
Flitting in very briefly as I've got to rush out to the breastfeeding NCT session in a minute (starts at 7.30 so can't post much as I'll be late), to say thank you for all of your kind words and hugs. Today went better than I thought - my Dad was brought home by police at 12ish and we moved my Nana into her new home around 2pm. Parents not really talked to each other since so it's been a bit strained and awkward - like the big elephant in the room that no-one mentions, but my sister will be staying over there tonight so hopefully things will be ok for the moment anyway. I think my Dad is obviously feeling a bit embarassed about the whole thing, and doesn't really know what to say to either my Mum or me. Not sure what the future will hold for them regarding their relationship though.
Nana seemed happy at her new home when I left, although there are a lot of carers there from oversees, and my Nana can be very funny about these things as she's lived in a bubble most of her life, but they were all friendly and smiley with her so she seems to be happy with that. Showed her Bean's scan pictures and talked to her about him, and she's looking forward to meeting him when he's born. She felt him kick too, which was nice.
Well better go or I'll be late.
Hugs to all who need or want them, and labour vibes where appropriate.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
KatyLiz we've got a Hauck Viper Trio which I find sturdier than my friends Quinny. Some of the smaller cheaper ones like the Winnie the pooh one are a bit flimsy though. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
