Well, I'm annoyed.
We were meant to be going shopping tomorrow for baby things and as an anniversary thing but MIL (we car-share with her) text DH to say that the car's MOT has run out so we'll have to postpone it.
I don't get out alot due to the M.E so I was really looking forward to it.2019 Wins

No idea. Hopefully we'll have our own car on Saturday. We saw a car we liked and offered the trade seller an extra £50 if he got a new MOT for it and he agreed and said that he'll get it booked into the workshop this week, so here's hoping it passes and then we'll be able to buy it and have freedom again!2019 Wins

Right ladies... talk me out of / into a home birth please.
First baby, and I know the odds of having to transfer into hospital are about 40%.0 -
Morning Savage! Ooh - good discussion! I'm opting not to despite the uncomplicated by the book labour and delivery I had the first time. My fear of something going wrong is too strong for that and I'd rather be somewhere with medical help on hand than have to wait for hospital transfer. But then I live in the countryside where it would take up to 30 minutes just to wait for an ambulance let alone get to hospital. plus the hospital i'm going to is not my nearest - and i really don't want to go to my nearest one!
I guess if you're comfortable with the idea of it then why not. I have read birth stories - just on MSE - of very positive home deliveries for first babies (and more). How close are you to hospital if you had to go in?0 -
Morning Savage I'd have loved a home birth this time but OH is dead set against it so I gave in. I don't think I'd have been so keen if it was my first baby though as I wouldn't have known what to expect and the only pain relief is gas and air. My compromise is to stay at home for as long as I can before going into hospital.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

I quite like the idea of a home birth, I've also read some really positive stories about it, but for my first baby I think I'd rather be in hospital (even though it frightened me when we went for our tour) because my mum had terrible problems in labour with me and ended up with an emergency CS under GA, and I'm worried I'll have the same. Just after our hospital visit I was leaning really heavily towards it, but DH and I have discussed it at length and decided that we'll stay at home as long as possible as hospital is only 5 mins away. Hopefully we'll get into one of the two midwife led rooms and not have to go in the scary obstetric rooms. Depending how this birth goes I'd seriously consider a home birth for the next one though...Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160

morning ladies
had a lovely meal out with my NCT ladies yesterday, although the waiter looked a bit alarmed when he clocked how pregnant we all are! First babies are due on Saturday and next Wednesday, so there were some major bumps round the table! :rotfl: We'll all have finished work by next Friday so we're planning to meet for lunch the following Monday, and go to bumps and babes together that weekLittle monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
LittleMoog - that sounds really nice (the NCT group - not the scary hospital Lol!) that there are others in the same boat as you and all at the same stage. Our parentcraft classes the last time weren't really like that so I have no contact with any of them and not doing the classes this time. I did meet a lot more people in my local area and made a couple of good friends through breastfeeding groups and stuff so hopefully I'll meet some more this time too!
Definitley stay at home as long as possible. I was almost 4cm when I went to hospital with DS and they allowed me up to the delivery suite. If I hadn't been then i would probably have been admitted to the ward which I would have refused as I was beyond scared and was going nowhere without DH! The longer you wait at home the more relaxed you are and the less time you are in hospital. I'm planning that this time too. My hospital is about 25-30 mins away however, we discovered last time that at 9pm at night that the journey can be done in just under 20 misn with no traffic about. So hopefully baby will behave and not try to come any time in the afternoon when getting into the hospital carpark is beyond a nightmare!0 -
savageHK, a lot will depend on your midwife I reckon. First labours can be scary simply because you don't know what to expect. That's what I would be worrying about with a home birth - are things going OK? Will I be able to cope with this level of pain? Will the pain get any worse? How long will this last? How much mess will it make?
All of these questions would put me off first time round. However... if you've got a great midwife with you then she'll be able to put your mind at rest plus make a call about whether you're better off in a birthing unit/hospital if things don't go exactly to plan."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
