Hello all! I hope you're all well:)
    Welcome to all the newbies!
Congrats Carrie, Toni (and her mum ;)), shery and Vikki (well done!)!

Sorry it's taken me some time to come back here, but there have been some sleepless nights and I've had to get the last few bits when I had the energy to leave the house!

We decided to call her Sophia but we still need a middle name (we were so unprepared, it's surreal!) so if you have any ideas, give us a shout as I'll still be lurking:D

I'll post my birth story soon but it's back to bed for me now.

Labour vibes to all the boldies, esp ikkle and moneypuddle!

DD loves babies. Her speech is getting really good, but I'm not sure if she understands. She pokes my belly and says "Mummy's baby" and when I ask her if we are getting a new baby for her birthday she shouts "Yeah!"

Does your little boy understand Neph?

Congrats Bikeless. i love the name Sophia. It's beautiful. I think Maria would suit it as a middle name?

Gilly - that would be fab! I'd be up for that!

CL - he pats my tummy and says baby a lot but I don't think he has any idea what's going to happen. He has hit a bit of a jealous streak though and doesn't like me to be hugging anybody else so we will have to work on that before the baby arrives! We are going to introduce him to some other new babies (friends and relatives all expecting around the same time as us) so hopefully he might just get a wee bit of an idea what's going on. He does points at babies on tv and gets excited when he sees tham and comes over to pat my stomach - so who knows - maybe he does have a clue!

Rups - see that's what I mean - chuck the cake this way and then you don't have to have any and i do and so we're both happy! lol!

Bikeless - that is such a lovely name! Louise, Elizabeth, Jane, I could list more! Many congrats! You still have time - 6 weeks for registering I think! At least you have agreed on a first name - we still can't agree!

What brands of maternity pads & breast pads can people recommend? I know there were some people said to avoid because they were a bit rubbish!
Lansinoh I thought were recommended for breast pads. I've got a box of those (were on sale on Amazon and also at Waitrose recently, might also still be on 1/3rd off at Sainsbury's baby event). I've also got some reusables and a pair of (expensive) ones which fit one of my nursing bras. Can't recall on maternity pads but I'm going for the same brand as I usually use for *ahem* other things which are Natracare.

While on that topic, I remember witch hazel was supposed to be good for either slathering on the pads or applying seperately. Can anyone recommend where to get this from? Most witch hazel seems to be a distillation which is not what we're after I don't think, I think we're after pure mushed up witch hazel or some kind of gel.

I had this problem too :( They didn't have my size in the maternity bra so I can't vouch for how they fit. I figured I may as well get a nursing bra as, afaik, the only difference is really the clips. The fit was really bad & I had to take it back :( It's a shame because it looked really promising compared to some of the other bras I've seen. The best one I've found so far is the debenhams one but I'd like some nice underwear for when I do my bump shoot nearer to our due date :)

Morning everyone. Many congrats to all the new mummies - fantastic news! Although am a bit disturbed at how quickly I have been moving up the list!

I also found Mothercare to be very disappointing. Had a much better experience at a small independent lingerie shop so am going back there this time.

tbh I should have known better than to buy bras from a non-specialist shop, but I needed some to put in my bag for this weekend, and I didn't have time to go to Bravissimo and get properly fitted, so just bought the size I'm wearing at the moment. It was horrendous, even with the straps as tight as they would go my boobs weren't supported at all, but they were hurting my shoulders! :o I think I needed to go down a back size and up 2 cupsizes, but that takes me out of the range of sizes that mothercare actually stock, stupid large boobs!

Am just going to hang onto them until after this weekend away and then I'll return them and go and get properly fitted. My plan is to get 2 softcup bras for getting feeding established, and then if it's working out ok order some wired ones, there's no way I can live in non-wired bras for longer than that, will keep the soft cup ones for nighttimes!

I think it is the distilled witch hazel, that's what I've bought anyway! As it's a liquid you can keep in the fridge for maximum cooling/soothing properties and just pour a bit on a pad to put on.
