I was chatting with my mom over the weekend about labour and due dates etc – turns out I was 2 weeks overdue!!! When I finally decided to make an appearance I was there within half an hour!

She also told me that this was back in the days when the hospital used to keep you in for about a week even if you and baby were fine.
Apparently at meal times all the women would head to the dinner hall armed with their blow up ring to sit on! The matron would also come around every morning and announce it was ‘Tummy-time’ and you’d all have to lie on your tummys for an hour to encourage your flat stomach to return!!

how weird hey? nowadays they want you out so quickly. lol. would lying on the tummy just help start labour or something?

lol! no, tummy-time was for after you'd had the baby to help flatten your belly!

Im quite suprised how quicky they want you out the hospital these days - from the sounds of it you've got just enough time to get your clothes back on!!

she means after they have already given birth.

And no lying on your tummy doesn't start labour off.

They keep you as long as needed really. They have certain things they have to monitor such as baby feeding, nappies, your own well being etc. If all is fine then there's no real reason to keep you in and so the 6 hour rule is fine if there are issues and your struggling with feeding etc then they keep you in a bit longer which I think is good. Bearing in mind the amount of cuts there have been to midwife and maternity services I'm not surprised they aren't able to keep people in longer when not needed.

Yes, for me it was quite a surprise to know they send you home within hours if everything is ok. My cousin, who lives in Spain, stayed in hospital for a few days as it is normal practice to stay between one and three days. That said, in Spain is not common to have home births either, the hospital is preferred.

Rups, I will send you those two vouchers by pm now.

I did a lot of tiding up yesterday and overfilled a massive bin bag with clothes and stuff for charity. I have to rearrange it now in smaller more sturdy bags and take it there. It is a proper mountain! And I still have bits and pieces around, plus some clothing for ebay! I will try to rearrange some furniture in the second bedroom. DH told me not to do anything, but I am sure I will be fine just dragging stuff around instead of carrying it. And if not, I can always stop.

I am disappointed my order from Mothercare has not even been sent yet! Granted I ordered on Sunday, but I chose "next day delivery", which I assumed would be sent yesterday, because weekends do not count, therefore I should be receiving it today... but it is still "processing". Tomorrow I have midwife and other stuff, and on Thursday I have Aquanatal. I really needed it here today! I would have chosen the "nominated day" delivery, which was also free, and ask for it to be delivered on Friday, when I know I will be home. I already missed two aquanatal due to the cold I had last couple of weeks, I do not want to miss a third one! Arrrgh...

I found out I was forceps and so was my SIL :( Not sure about OH but I think he had a stuck shoulder. So of the three kids all large (> 9lb) and all stuck. We'll see how I go, eh....? (I was induced at a week late though which may not have helped).

I was wondering what they do if you have a home birth with this sort of thing? Do they leave and come back later?? Or does someone stay for c. 6 hours?
