Could you email back and say how lovely it is that they want to come over but that in the UK the hospitals allow you to go overdue by 2 weeks so whilst baby is due on xx date there is no guarantee that they will arrive by then and you would hate them to come over only for the baby to have not arrived and them had a wasted trip.

Explain that once baby is born and you are out of hospital you can make plans for them to come visit but also that with all the baby stuff and the size of your home it might just be a bit too much trying to accommodate 4 adults and a screaming baby and so perhaps they could stay in a local hotel/b and b x

That sounds very good, thanks ikkle. I can't wait for DH to wake up and talk about it, he is just peacefully sleeping by my side since 11pm, I wish I could! I have watched two epidodes of Stargate and done one Sudoku, yet I am still awake.. By the way, to whom mentioned it, Game of Thrones is an awesome tv series ( and the books even more, they have more stuff, although series are true to the plot)!

is it true that hospitals give you only 2hours for external visits? Or am I making this up / have I dreamt about it?

Partners get longer visiting times Hun. At my hospital they can be there all through labour then when back on ward the visiting hours are 8am till 10pm but for people who are not your partner they only get 2pm till 4pm and 6pm till 8pm. It's worth checking with your hospital as it varies.

It's also worth noting whether children (not your own) are allowed to visit. When I was in hospital only the woman's own children were allowed. This meant my niece couldn't come and see her cousin. Check with the hospital if you have any nieces/nephews/friends' children who might want to visit.

Edit: Also it's a locked ward. Which means you're not allowed off the ward either until you're discharged. I wanted to take Freddie to the costa coffee shop in the hospital so that my niece could see him but I wasn't allowed to do this.

Happy due date mishka - hope your bump pillow makes his appearance soon for you. xx

Pleased I've made it to today without Bean arriving as it means I can go to aquanatal class today. :) It's really nice to get out of the house to see other Mums-to-be and Julie the lovely midwife too. I'm hoping it doesn't stimulate him to come out early though, as I want my bedroom decorated before he arrives!

Woke up to the news that the nasty girl from my NCT group had her baby last night (breech and emergency c-section), so although we've not heard from a nice girl who was being induced on Sunday (I'm guessing it worked but she's been too tired or busy to tell us), I'm guessing I'm the last one in the group after all. I reckon it'll be sod's law now that Bean will go over by at least a couple of weeks now just cos everyone else in the group was early (apart from induction girl who was 10 days over). Oh well, at least Bean's birth can be celebrated on it's own rather than being announced at the same time as all the others, and I was technically the last due date anyway. He needs to stay in until Monday now anyway as MIL goes on holiday then. ;)

Good luck at the hospital today ikkle - hope everything goes well for you honey and they can do something about the pain you're in. xx

Hugs for all who need or want them and labour vibes where appropriate.

  • Marta Ikkle has said exactly what I wanted to, so I would take her advice on the issue with your parents!

Ikkle know how you feel - I am fed up with the niggle pains and feeling like crap - OH is worried how I am actually going to cope when I go into labour because I have been crying and taking paracetamol (which I never do); keep trying to explain that it is getting me down because it is constant and has been going on for DAYS now - at least if I was in labour I would know that the end was in sight!

AFM - had an appalling nights sleep again, but luckily feel ok (tired-wise at least!) at the mo. Managed to get a couple of hours in night and then fell asleep for another couple of hours from about 5.30am this morning after I made myself a hot chocolate. Will try and get some cat-naps in throughout the day I think. Midwife is due today but not sure what time so will give Dr's a call when they open in 2 minutes! Have been having tightening across my tummy since 6pm yesterday - sometimes with pain, sometimes without. At one point they were half an hour apart but sometime it lasted for 40 seconds others about 10 seconds. We googled it and there were some people saying it was Braxton Hicks and others saying it was silent labour so OH started to get his hopes up! I said until they were five mins apart there was no point in getting excited! tummy is gurgling a lot too and I feel really hungry although this then plays havoc with the stomach acid.:( Back to drinking plain water only with lots of ice in it. When I woke up this am had to go the loo and for a poo and TMI ALERT - really nearly didn't make it! It was very soft which is apparently another sign that labour is on its way; I do hope so but I have read so much on all the 'signs' of labour that I have kind of given in now cos if they were all true I would have had this baby about two weeks ago! Anyway, we'll see what the midwife says today.

    Happy due date Mishka!

And you'd get some decent pain relief at the hospital cos lets face it paracetamol is pants, OH knows I have a high pain threshold so he knows it must be bad if I'm taking any pain relief. It's not just the pain though its the feeling that I daredn't go anywhere for fear something might kick off and I will be on my own.
