sorry katyliz. lol. well that recipe i sent wasnt one he followed so am wondering whether he did bake it or not. grr. why do i do that to myself? i get greedy and then worry afterwards. stupid me.

agree on the coat there. would love to not spend too much. i will look on ebay but need to try, thats the only problem.

All eggs in this country are lion stamped and come from hens vaccinated against salmonella, so I really wouldn't worry about it. I don't know why they haven't updated the advice about uncooked egg tbh, I don't think there's any significant risk to eggs any more

  • My auntie's key lime pie recipe:

Pack of ginger nuts (cheapo ones)
    Butter
    3/4 pint double cream
397 ml tin condensed milk (think this is the size)
    3 limes
    flake

Makes 2 x round baking tins (don't know the actual size, but the normal sized ones)

Bash biscuits up, melt some butter, mix together and squash down as the base into 2 round baking tins. Put in fridge to cool/harden.
    Whip the cream.
    Add the condensed milk.
Using a peel scraped thing, get bits of the peel off the limes, then juice them and add both of these to the cream mix.
Stir in and the mixture will thicken.
Spread over the bases in the tins.
Squash up the flake in the packet, then sprinkle over the top.
Put in fridge to set for at least an hour.

No eggs, no cooking, easy peasy and always get lots of compliments (only pudding I have tried to make!).
Personally, I would leave the peel out as I don't like peel, but everyone else says it makes it really good.

I do the recipe from Nigella domestic goddess, which is very similar, and it's lush :) It's my DH's favourite dessert, he always asks for it when we have people coming over.

    Key like pie sounds yum!!

Would second little moog on the egg front. I'm married to an egg producer and we have to have regular salmonella tests. If anything was ever found our eggs are totally traceable and would more than likely be pulled
From the shelves before you had a chance to eat them.

I like runny eggs for breakfast and I haven't stopped eating them.

The whole eggs thing - it's really interesting to hear (especially with your knowledge of the industry zcrat) that they are safe. Last time it was mentioned on here, think it was by sexymouse, I asked my MW her opinion on whether lion stamped = safe and she said no. To me it seems ridiculous that the professionals can have so little clue and lead to people worrying and stressing about what they are eating for no reason! My MW, and no doubt others, really need to be educated on these things.

I think they probably just don't like the idea that it's uncooked, KatyLiz. Like the uncooked meat thing, I was told to avoid Parma Ham (one of the few things I was eating :) )
