And the work xmas party...
I do and Freddie's not showing any signs of retardation yet. I only have a glass or two (small ones, not whoppers). Personally, BFing or not, I don't like the idea of being hard-carted with a new baby around anyway. If you fancy pushing the boat out at the xmas party, probably best to express a few feeds' worth and bottle feed for the night.
But a glass or two won't hurt."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Realistically I know I won't drink ... I will be hammered after one as I was a lightweight before I stopped drinking!:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -

No doubt a small amount of alcohol does make it through to your milk. But in terms of what that small amount might do to your baby, I wouldn't worry. Each to their own though. It's like drinking whilst pregnant - the advice errs on the side of caution, i.e. don't do it, simply because women aren't trusted to make informed decisions."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Once F's in bed, I really look forward to my glass of wine each evening. I don't care if that means I've got an unhealthy attitude towards alcohol - it keeps me sane. Public health advice is all very well, but personally I think the constant message about alcohol intake just makes the majority of (perfectly healthy) people feel unnecessarily guilty about enjoying a drink. It's that old puritanical streak - if you enjoy something a lot, it must be bad for you. Bollox"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I'm breastfeeding and haven't had a drink since before getting pregnant. My HV said a small glass is fine but she recommends not having it immediately before breastfeeding but a couple of hours before baby is due a feed. Everything in moderation should be fine!

My HV said drink whilst feeding because it takes a while to get into your bloodstream so it just goes to show that they probably make it up as they go along"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

:rotfl: I'm sure they do make it up as they go along, the variations in advice offered is amazing!!
My HV came out with a corker last week, she told me not to follow the medical advice given by the Consultant Paed as 'they don't know what they are talking about!!' :rotfl::heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I can remember with one of my 2 having a very heavy night out and the next day my milk was like pure alcohol  the smell was awful - no way in the world would you want to give it to a baby !
Having said that I was horrendously drunk, was my 25th birthday so had it planned for a while - dont think most people would get that messyBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -

Tell me about it! Midwives roll their eyes at what the HV says, HVs poo-poo midwives and both of them think that doctors don't have a clue! *
* I'm not so sure they're not onto something here though... paediatricians deal with illnesses and are not too great with day to day stuff. (And that's from someone whose brother is a paediatrician!)"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Ooh, grim! I guess people metabolise alcohol differently too. I had one friend who I could always tell when he'd had a night out. He didn't drink any more than any one else but he'd really reek the next day. I'm ashamed to say, I quite like the smell. I like the smell of garlic on people the next day too"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
