Textbroker - Writing for money (not vouchers)

If you don't mind me asking, how are Odesk and Elance in comparison to TB? I feel confident writing about some subjects more than others, but I find with TB I can pretty much do a little bit of research on the majority of topics and write up an article with ease. Do Odesk and Elance require more in-depth knowledge?
TB has been slow lately and my TeamOrders have dried up in recent weeks, so I'm kind of eager to branch out a little bit. I don't think I want to write it off completely because it really is easy to make a little stash of money each week and cash out, but some other projects here and there would be interesting.
Odesk and Elance are very different to TB. There are many more jobs which are out for tender. You make bids or proposals and you can have one off jobs or ongoing jobs. I currently have ongoing jobs for four clients, which will be long-term. They are not considered as content farms which is what TB is. Payment is in $ though, but I have enough going on to give me work five days a week and have some had some one-off clients to keep me ticking over.
It's worth registering and having a nose around, it's free and the tests are pretty good.
I'd highly recommend both if you're looking to branch out!0 -
Hi everyone,
I've just joined the forum (after browsing for years!) and signed up for Textbroker. I have a journalism degree and worked in journalism for 5 years so it would be fairly embarrassing if I didn't score too wellAlthough I'm not so sure I have met their brief. We shall see!
My worry is I won't get many jobs as I am at work most of the day so can't constantly keep tabs. Looking forward to giving it all a go though!
There are some great jobs posted on TB. The rating of articles is the one you have to watch. Your star rating is based on your last five articles and if you get downgraded it is very hard to get back up again as there is very little work. You can be downgraded even if the client thinks it is excellent work. But it's horses for courses, I have had some 3* ratings for some of my work which has been passed as excellent by the clients.
Good luck though. TB has been kind to me.0 -
can you get alerts when jobs come onto the site? or is it just luck that you find 2/3* jobs?0

Just your luck:)0

Ok So I applied for TB a couple of days ago, and today had an email saying I was 3* rating. Was kind of expecting it, but was a bit miffed as I've been following the website the last few days and have only seen 4* & 5* jobs come up! Well anyway tonight couldn't sleep... just logged in at half 1 in the morning and there are 3* jobs! yay!
And one of them is about my town.... it must be fate
So I clicked I want this job, and it's come straight up with a text box... it says deadline is 13th April (so Saturday) but I'm really nervous to close the page in case the job disappears! I could write it now, as it's only short but I'm in that twilight state of being knackered but not being able to sleep and as you can probably tell from my post does not bode well for my writing!

You can close the page - once you have chosen that job, it's yours and it's not going to go anywhere. When you go back to the TB site and go to assignments, that job will open. This is because you can only pick one job at a time.
I never type in the text box. I type in Word first then copy/paste it to the text box when I am happy with what I've written.0 -
I'm starting to get a little bit fed up with the changing standards regarding team orders - I've had a few for various teams come back with different revision requests regarding things such as gaps between title and paragraph, capitalisation in tables and so on. It seems that every time I submit an article, someone new is checking it and the decision to accept it or not is down to the person viewing it.
Googler, if you're reading this, I tried to respond to your message recently but it said your inbox was full"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
Hi all,
I recently joined Textbroker - my thanks to the OP here - and was rated a 3*.
I'm not concerned with 'How very dare they?' Nor with 4*s doing 3* work. I'm sure 5*s do it all the time. Life.
However, I'd like to know if it's possible to apply to be on a team as a 3*. Some clients ask for 4* only, but I've seen others that just want to see a sample of your writing. Or so it appears.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks.0 -
Have just noticed the new message requesting authors for large team orders and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to share any information on which ones are active. I have joined a few in the past which never seem to have any work available.0

Do the clients see your full name and address at any point? What can they see when you're bidding for work?
And do the areas of expertise picked at registration affect what jobs you can see offered?
Do they give a subject for the test article?
Thanks.0
