Well, I joined up a couple of weeks ago, rated 3*, and have now had my first 5 articles rated by Textbroker. I received four 3*s and one 4*, and am royally pee'd off that I hadn't noticed that my version of Word (which I use to write the articles in first) had US English as the default dictionary! I think if it wasn't for that (and of course for me not noticing - doh!), I could have moved up to 4*, as that was the majority of my feedback! That and the use of commas, sigh! :p I've managed to change the dictionary to UK English (that was a feat in itself!), so hopefully onwards and upwards.

I have a full time job, so am doing articles the odd evening and weekends, they don't take me very long, and although I can't see myself ever being able to make a living out of Texbroker I'm enjoying writing the articles, it's a little bit of spare cash, and I hope will improve my writing skills!

Unfortunately my MS Word won't switch to English, no idea why! But you get to know the Americanisms. I teach English as a Foreign Language so I'm generally alright to spot these kind of things.

To the poster that asked if a full time wage is possible from this website, I would say no. Not from this website alone, at least. The work is not regular enough. Though I've been lucky enough to be part of a team that's given me around £2000 worth of work in the past couple of months.

    .

I had to change it in 4 difference places (including the control panel bit on my pc), as well as completely deleting US English. It took me about an hour and there was A LOT of swearing!!

Does anyone know whether Textbroker uses freelance copy editors as well as writers, or are the articles edited in-house?

I also write for TB evenings and weekends and have managed to earn about 50 pounds a month for the last 4 months. This is all being saved in my emergency fund account, so I am happy with that amount. I am a 3 star and would love to raise to a 4. I have not had a single rework or rejection so I seem to write the right thing as far as the client is concerned, but my TB comments are all about comma use. These are not the regular grammer errors, but really obscure rules which I'm sure only a liguistics expert would know about. I am going to try and write shorter, simpler sentences and see if that helps, maybe I'm trying to put down too complex a sentence?

I love the fact you get quick payment, sometimes my assignements have been accepted and paid within the hour.

English degree and an English teacher, but the commas still get me sometimes. Getting better though haha.
  • I don't really understand how anyone can make a living at this myself. You only have to look at articlebase, fivver and Elance to see how little money people get paid for writing articles. Good luck to anyone who is making money from it, but I don't honestly believe the majority of people can make a sane part time living like this.

Perhaps someone enterprising would pay someone of fivver £3.36 to write a 500 words article, then submit it to textbroker and double their money???

    Hmm. :)

But think I'll stick with Constant Content and go for the $150 jobs. Even at 35% off, I'm still doing better.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, I accepted an article last night, then went into Textbroker this morning to find that it's awaiting acceptance/payment from client. The thing is, I hadn't written a word, or submitted it!! Not sure if was a glitch in the system, I've emailed TB about it but wondered whether anyone else had ever had this? Bit annoyed as haven't spotted any other 3* jobs today.

TB have actually told me that many of my sentences are too long and complex:D Some of them have to be though - an article full of short, simple sentences does not read well.
