am leaning towards the Scout in Aluminium, but i really want a stainless steel pan. Hmm what are others finding?I have a base camp model in stainless steel. The KK site said summat about how if you want to transport the water inside the kettle itself, rather than filling it as you go, the alu is better as it forms a tighter seal with the plug. HTH.
It's horses for courses, really.
I is a tired little bunny so have blown the budget on a rental DVD (went for Pratchett rather than something zombiefied) and will chill for an evening. I shall rejoin y'all laters.
Daz, smart work with the lotto ticket and hope you enjoy your takeaway.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi, de lurking to send hugs and positive vibes to all those in their own shtf situation and thanks to everyone for the chatter and good ideas.
I am looking forward to May right now. It's not that I am wishing life away but oh and I have had no quality time due to helping others and our own health probs (which others seem to ignore conveniently. Our limited energy reserves have been depleted and this has been compounded by the fact I injured my back 10 days ago and have had to borrow oh spare stick to get around. Now I am the carer and I do the cooking and admin etc etc. It has hammered home to me just how important it is to look after ourselves. If the shtf now we'd be totally stuffed. No amount of prepping would help right now. I can barely get myself to the bathroom let alone flee with a bob lol. My oh is trying to help but he is limited by his own health and capabilities. Our diet has been lacking somewhat and after a couple of takeaways and too many rolls and sandwiches I am dying to be fit enough to get back into the kitchen.
The recent events in the news have been alarming and the media circus disturbing, as is the way people in general seemed sucked in by all the rubbish being peddled rather than seeing the bigger picture and seeking the truth.
Last night watched the film Idiocracy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/
a silly comedy but still thought provoking.
So the plan is to spend time looking after us and put our health first. The freezer is stuffed with meat in case of a financial shtf when the brown envelope arrives, but I am going to make sure there is a few homecooked ready meals in there too. Next we need to recharge our batteries with a trip out, even just a little drive or a bag of chips at the coast which we promised ourselves a couple of months ago. Then a trip to find some preppy things.
On my wish list is a dutch oven because of it's versatility and another stove. Have found loads here,

Especially love these http://wildstoves.co.uk/new-products/biolite-campstove/
So many here store water, but due to lack of space this is not always possible. It may also prove difficult to carry if you need to change location, but so as long as there is a source of water be it a river, stream, water butt or a piece of plastic sheet and a bucket to catch rain all you need is a method of filtering and purifying it. Have found this and its on our wishlist,

and these for our bobs (when I find a decent but cheap rucksack)

I've also been following the flu out break in China and noticed that H7 strain has now appeared in Germany
http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/site/?pageid=event_desc&edis_id=BH-20130421-38937-DEU
The update is now referring to H5N1.
Anyway I seem to be writing an essay and it's time for more painkillers (not that they seem to work much but I live in hope) and back to lurkdom and discovering more goodies to add to my wish list.

I have just built up our new bed (was meant to have arrived & been assembled before DH went into hospital but the legs were out of stock....ho hum) and I now have......UNDERBED STORAGE ROOM:T:T
While I was still in the process of building the bed I'm wondering what would be suitable to keep under there - and suddenly I wondered if I was mad - then I remembered all of you & realised I am not mad - just different from most people in RL.
Any suggestions for the best place to get underbed storage (so excited it's unreal:D)
Hello CM
Hope your OH is ok....
A cheapo version: old tights, using a leg for a row of tins - they stay in a row but a bit unwieldy, and can be dragged out by the gusset (ahem).

Evening all, if anyone is considering getting a portable stove as part of general prepping check out the 'Fire Spout', just google that and you'll find info. I've had one for about six years now and it's the most convenient thing. It is four linked sides of stainless steel, mine is an old style one and comes apart into 4 pieces, the newer version is hinged to fold flat. It runs on any wood/dried leaves/any dry natural material and is completely portable as it weighs round a kilo and is simple to assemble and use. I've also got a couple of steel rods with mine that are the pan support and a door to regulate the burn. It is a simple but very effective cooker and in my experience well worth the outlay as you can take it with you wherever you go and usually find firing material easily. Hope that's useful, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
