So - any advice on which Kelly kettle to buy? I am thinking the biggest size aluminium one but would be grateful for any experience.

I am also looking up portable urinals - LOL - as a midnight trip to the loo across a crowded field does not appeal.

I'm actually quite glad I'm unable to give advice on portable urinals.

Mrs L have you tried roasting thick slices of cabbage with a sprinkling of pepper, garlic and brown sugar? Tis delicious.

    Hello preppers, just catching up.

Well I have finally dug over all the raised beds ready for veg, raspberries are starting to show, rhubarb the same although the strawbs seem to have snuffed it this winter with only a few hardy souls surviving. Got some new plants from A*ldi so will fill the gaps. The fruit trees are finally showing life as are the currants and goosegogs.

Trying a bit of an experiment as I will be planting shallots from A*da the normal ones and the posh Echalion type to see if they will grow as well as the ones for the garden. Also bought some Leo dried peas to see if they also grow, will let you know!!

My Doomsday book reading continues with The Rapture, Liz Jenson just finished.

My bedside table is worrying! esp if OH realises what is there!!

I can recommend something like "brief relief" to save those midnight trips. Basically a shaped funnel to hold against yourself, urine collects in a plastic bag filled with a powder that turns into a gel so no spills. Not v enviro friendly though. The friendlier version is a she-wee into a bottle (and you can put the bottle in bottom of sleeping bag to warm your feet up, if you trust it's done up tight).

And defo a she-wee (or P-mate etc) for during the day and a small bottle of hand sanitiser.

I ran London this weekend, and the only female toilet facilities at the start were (waist-height, facing each other) urinals, quite amusing when the average female has no idea what they are meant to do. (I spend a lot of time outdoors wearing a harness so have learnt the hard way how to pee without undoing it or pulling down trousers :o).

Thank you (gack!) more added to the list.

Really need to start these or I will be forever glued to a book and not posting....

We are starting 'Operation Shed' at the weekend - basically clearing out all the carp which has crept in, so OH can finish insulating it. Then finish lining with thick plywood (most of this skip dived, he's built it from scratch, talented boy).

Then, I have a nice, big (10 x 8 foot) space to go all preppy in! We are also going to pop in a tiny woodstove if we can find a cheap one, fire proof the hearth, back of shed n roof. The parents say if there is ever an earthquake, this will be the place they shelter, as it is so solidly built!

I have all kinds of ideas for hidden storage e.g. bench seats, lift up lids, lockable cupboards, etc. but also make it somewhere nice to sit in like a mini summerhouse type thing. Seen some new ideas on-line, we are going to plant up all around it, cover in ivy, etc. so it's like a hidden shed at the bottom of the garden, only the smoke might give it away!

Not exactly a BOL, but in case the homestead ever has anything happen to it, a temporary sanctuary....:D

Will try and upload pics if I can ever master doing that...

Take care all, especially you poorlies out there, and keep on prepping.
