Scarlet, I would add s e baby clothes and blankets etc to your BOB. Plus a couple of e plastic bag crimps and a sharp knife. Just in case. Xx hugsMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
A night without frost. Wahay! I'm itching to get out in the garden but facing the seasonal struggle of picking up/lugging around heavy, floppy bags of compost.
The solution is either small bags or those special lightweight ones (just add water) but both are more expensive than the regular size. And just to taunt me, it's always the regular ones which seem to come in special offers (three for two etc).
It's times like this I could seriously consider becoming a COUGAR......
Wanted - strong young man (but only for gardening duties)

It has been very sunny over the last couple of days, and warm enough just to go out without a coat, only a cardigan. Feels like spring!!
I am pleased that some of my herbs and salad plants have come up (through?) not sure of all these fancy gardening terms, and are ready to go into bigger pots.
I have also done mountains of washing, throws, blankets, curtains etc, and might even start stowing away some winter stuff. Shouldnt really, because we will probably have snow next week. :rotfl:
Its just the idea of summer after such a long and very cold winter, seems exciting.
I had got a BOB started, but fell by the wayside a bit. I didnt really want to store all my important documents in it. So I have decided to put all offical documents in a small wallet, where I usalluy keep them, then in a hurry, I only have to grab the wallet, and not start hunting through for stuff.
Well off to do do some more washing, while the weather is holding. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine.

Hi Pineapple. If you have a Poundland near you, Ive been getting dry packs of compost there that become 10 litres of compost when you add water. I can't carry big bags of compost home so they've been great for me. All the seeds I've set away in it are growing well. HTH.0

Juts popping out from Lurkdom again for a minute.....
Boston was scary, no doubt about that but have just seen on the news about the evacuations in Denbigh. Although not on the same scale it must be frightening. And as it's happened 2 nights in a row - I wonder if anyone packed a BOB after the first night?
Morgonarla - well dne you for takng on Kitty and I'm sorry about your Mum. Yes, it is hard - been there & done that. My Mum went through her funeral requests in hospital and was adamant she was not to be resucitated. I heard this so often I had to sit on my hands to keep them away from the pillow  (only jokin). But you keep a brave face on and then crumple up outside the door out of sight.
Have to go now as hubby needs more Pjs as hip replacement was not as run of the mill as expected. And the problem of being a frugalite is that the PJs he wears in the house are not fit for hospitals:DDebts 07/12/2021

Really?? ONLY gardening duties? But that seems such a waste....
You is bad.
Mind you, I must admit that I've occasionally regretted not breeding a strapping son of my very own to help with the heavier tasks. I fear I have neither the temperament nor the looks to be a cougar. I'd catch myself thinking things like; I've got clothes older than he is!:rotfl:
JayneC, re priorities, it helps me to think about the rule of three; 3 mins without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.
Of course, most of us wouldn't die of starvation in just 3 weeks but we would be very physically debilitated and with that weakness comes mental confusion and poor decision-making.
I take lifesaving meds, so I am very familar with the discipline of keeping enough of them around to cover needs and any hiatus in filling a prescription. My pharmacy can't fill my prescription in one go, they simply don't keep enough in stock, so I always have to budget an extra day to fulfill that errand.
Imagine that you were on "lockdown" and your neighbours likewise. Or that there was perhaps a tanker drivers' strike blockading the fuel terminals. You can't get out. What you have is what you have.
How are you fixed for grub? Do you have shelf-stable UHT milk as backup for fresh? Is there extra bread in the freezer and/ or, do you have flour and yeast to make some?
What if the water goes off? Do you have plenty of water, such as about two weeks' worth, per person, for minimal use? Have you back-ups like hand-sanitiser gels and baby wipes if you can't bathe? How about some paper plates and cups (lots about now we're coming into that season) in case there isn't water to wash up.
If the power is out, have you alternatives for light? What do you cook on, and have you an alternative if that isn't available? Have you a plan for eating down the freezer before the premium non-freezable products like meat and fish spoil?
What happens if you have to evacuate at short notice in the middle of the night? Do you have a go-bag for each household member? What about pets? If you have to shelter in a community centre for a night, or longer, have you got what you need to be reasonably comfortable? Change of clothes, several changes of smalls, washbag.
If the banking system does a Cyprus, have you got cash? The blogger FerFAL, who went through the Argentine crisis, recommends a bare minimum of one month's expenses in cash, to hand, at all times. Your debit or credit cards might not be accepted.
If you run a vehicle, is its tank kept nearly full? If you run a pushbike, are its tyres pumped and its chain oiled?
If you use a computer, are your documents backed up offsite? Do you have off-site copies of precious photos and documentation of your goods and chattels in case you need to make an insurance claim after a total loss.
I've known people who've had to flee housefires in the middle of the night. My whole block once had to do a midnight evac when someone blew up their flat. I have a packed go-bag which I can grab at any time.
It's going to be a little different for each of us, depending on what we have, where we live, who lives with us etc etc.
Been playing on the lottie today. Rang Mum and disturbed her in her woodshed (woman has three sheds, dammit - one has some fantastic toys in it; lathe, band-saw, pillar drill, circular saw). We have some stuff which can be incorporated into the most-of-a-shed but some will have to be bought. She's making a list.
Righty, just going off to play with my butane stove, to make sure that I can work it OK.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

You is bad.
innit though
My aquisition of Glastonbury tickets this morning (:j:j) has given me the perfect excuse to pur - chase a Kelly Kettle. DS and I are going by bus so it is a case of whatever we can carry to last us for 5 days. A tent and 2 sleeping bags is going to be a lot without clothes, cooking stuff etc. I am figuring that baby wipes will be essential (I am looking forward to it all, except the toilets ) and of course we will be able to buy food but, still, it'll be an interesting exercise in what you do actually need to "bug out" for a few days.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi all,
Managed to get out in the garden this weekend (nothing to do with me procastinating and not writing an essay honest:o).
So delighted to see little green shoots starting to pop up everywhere, I know thats what they do, but i still get very excited that they have actually worked:rotfl:.
VJsmum happy playing, I love ours. Thinking of having a few days up north in a couple of weeks (Glencoe), seems like an absolute age since we played in the tent and its one of our favourite places in the world, and of course its a very good excuse to check that the kelly kettle works;).
Not much prepping apart from being in the garden recently, but did look through our BOB's to make sure all was okay, think i need to swap some things over in the next few days as I put them together before the winter and they are looking decidedly fleecy:D, mind you I often find myself saying " Ne'er cast a clout till May be out" so maybe I should wait a bit.
Take care all
