Just found this wonderful website which, although a commercial one, has plenty of free information on emergency preparedness, particularly on what foods to store and how to store them...

I learnt something new today too. I was looking at the pots and stoves and when I mentioned the dutch oven my oh laughed and made a joke. Some peoples minds eh.
  • Just delurking - I'm not allowed to post links but go to google news and type 'flu' - the top story is from the Independent and is headed "Bird flu strain in China is leathal"

Thank you for the great information on this thread. I've spent quite a while on the woodstove site :D (thank you Seigemode :T)

As I type this, I'm drinking my first cup of tea, made with water, heated with Bio-Ethanol.

    A few things to note.

Firstly, it's cleaner burning, leaving no stain around the mouth of the stove. See picture below.

Secondly, it doesn't put out that, faint but noticeable, odour you get with Meths.

Thirdly, it seems to boil the water a little faster (about 20 second for 500ml of water) than Meths. Will have to do a side by side test to confirm this.

Finally (and most importantly for a skinflint like me :p ), it's £2-40 a litre cheaper than Meths.

My SHTF moment is rapidly approaching. As in total world upheaval in my family.

Part of me thinks it's just a total midlife meltdown. The other part is like for the last 25 years, I've done what was expected from me to make everyone in my life happy, except me.

I'm even willing to leave my stash behind.

hello all - sorry I am still mainly MIA, real life is too busy at the moment and I am still struggling to come to terms with the loss of my darling bulldog who went to rainbow bridge recently.
