Hi sorry been MIA.TY for all nice vibes, imagine a bad hangover + flu and that's me. Plus I ache in places I thought had dropped off.
I thought same thing re pigs /flu mary. Watching FluTrackers closely.
Thinking of a whole new way of working/prepping here. Cant be assed at all planting veg, cant be assed with cooking, working on a new approach. Maybe cooking every second day and eating same meal twice. Like shep pie then cumble & cust, you can eat that twice. Only two of us and we don't need a gardenful of veg, right now sounds liek far too much work.
Am lurking and just not talking much ok xxx ty for vibes.

Let's not forget the contagious disease that is currently on our very own doorsteps - measles. I've just checked with Mr Google and apparently adults can get it as well as kids. Pineapple can't remember if she was vaccinated - though she probably was. She is likely to have immunity anyway - according to Mr Google.
But worth a thought for you young uns ;)

I remember very clearly having measles. I was in bed feeling mis and my mother went downstairs to watch a new TV programme that was starting that night - Coronation Street!

To this day the tune takes me right back.

Both mine had the MMR vaccine. Deep breath and fingers crossed and, thank God, they were fine
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Take care of yourselves people xx

GQ totally agree with you about people not recognising 'the background' as it were and being a bit oblivious to everything except the soaps and celebrity gossip, but don't think it's confined to that age group. I'm a similar age to you and lots of people my age and even older just don't consider looking past the gloss. Some people don't want to look I think cos they're scared that they won't like what they see and feel helpless, but others seem to have no idea. But having said that I think there are a growing number of people who are starting to come out of the trance and seeing what's really there, I just hope that between us we can spread some hope that we are resouceful enough to survive and even thrive, but it's going to be a very bumpy ride I reckon.

Got some seeds in at my Lottie at last and am coveting the little flat pack stoves but wondering if I could improvise something similar.

Anyhoo off to walk doggie and then helping DD2 with LOs, back later x

Sometimes it feels easier to stick your head in the sand. When the horrific scenes of the Japan tsunami were on TV, some people didn't even want to acknowledge it. Japan is a long way away and it couldn't happen here anyway right?
What brought it home to me that bad things can happen anywhere and no one knows what's round the corner, was the footage of a kiddies car seat. This wasn't some 3rd world country where we are sadly almost immune to disaster reports, this was a country with ipads, playstations and child car seats !!!!!!!
A while back I had a lot more dialogue than usual with someone when they were having a personal SHTF moment. It was amazing what came out - cautious comments about war, money etc - even 2012! I suspect many others harbour secret concerns.
Which is where forums like this come in. If one is a loon, one is at least a loon in the company of loons! :T

:) Afternoon all. Glad to see that you've been busy with the rhubarb. I inherited a rhubarb crown when I took over my derelict lottie. For some bizarre reason it was sitting all on its jack-jones right in the middle of the plot.

I find the stuff seems to dissolve my tooth enamel so avoid it. I asked around until I found someone who wanted it, then dug it up as a donation.

I had measles as a young child, back in the 1960s. It was called German measles, for some reason which escapes me. I was unharmed. SuperGran had it in her young childhood and it damaged her eyesight, so much so that she had to wear bottle-bottom thick glasses ever after.

It's alarming to watch what is going on in S Wales as the measles virus carves its way along. Makes you realise what a precious resource immunisations are, and how little we appreciate the blessing. I can recall a flapdoodle in the early 1970s when mumps was doing the rounds in my town and people were terrified that young lads would get it and end up sterile.

And now there is a problem with gonorrhea. Heard about this on Radio 4 earlier this week. Expert was explaining that gonorrhea is a very fast mutating bacterium and that it is becoming immune to every antibiotic they throw at it. Currently, the medical profession is just about holding the line with combinations of existing antibiotics.

However, with no new antibiotics coming on stream they're expecting gonorrhea to be untreatable by 2015. The public health consequences of having the most common STI untreatable are truly scary. This can easily cost women their fertility and the expert said it can even be fatal in rare circs.

I remember a small bit in the original 1970s series of Survivors, when the young mum Jenny suddenly realises that her newborn isn't protected by immunisations and can't be protected, and how afraid she is.

Re headinthesand-ism I find the real problem is that adopting that position leaves your arris up in the air and available for a good kicking. Not an ideal situation. I prefer to have my beady eyes watching the world closely and my devious little mind churning away.

Mar, never mind eating the same meal on 2 consecutive nights, I tend to do that for up to 4 at a time. But I'm no gourmand.;)

Righty, going to see if my grub is ready. Having an early eats and going to hit the lottie this evening. Very high humidity at the mo, fully expecting storms in the next 12 hours.
