:)Pops, don't want to harangue you, but I've noticed in times past that you mention getting cold in the late evening and through the night, in a way which makes it clear that you're awake.

Our body temps drop on a cycle because we are supposed to be asleep when it's dark. It's what the species is intended to do because we have appalling night vision. If you're snuggled up under the bedcovers it's fine for your home to be at 10 degrees overnight.

I turn my heating off in the mid evening so that the temp drops by bedtime, otherwise I'd be too warm to sleep comfortably when I tuck myself down (mostly circa 10 pm, never later than 11 pm).

    Thanks GQ,
I'm sleeping better unless the pain of arthritis kicks in, in my legs...and usually through the night I am warm and cosy in bed unless I have to get up for some reason then it can be nippy:rotfl:

If my feet are not cold I'm reasonably happy. I prefer to be cooler too as long as I am not frozen...

The weather here is very wet and windy. I dont know how anyone copes with temperatures -50 c. I just cant begin to imagine how cold that is.

On the up side, next two months are council tax free!! So the money that doesnt go out to pay that will come in very hand elsewhere.

Glad it turned out accurate Craigywv...I am keeping a careful eye on the updates as I have a horrible feeling its going to bring snow to some places and a freeze tonight..the last thing you want when there is so much water around on the roads. Tomorrow afternoon is predicted to be worse than now so batten down the hatches..it will also move further East into the UK.

Another two storms to come later in the week but difficult to put exact time on them yet, I will keep updates coming as its better to warn people. Just had to bring my washing in as its not drying and put the central heating on as well as the fire....brrrrrrr!

It's been -42C here. It's worse than being in a deep freeze. You layer and layer clothes. Furnaces run nonstop. The block heater in your car is a must. I had to pick up my car at the airport in the middle of that coldsnap. The blockheater had been plugged in while I had been away. Car started first try, but the fluids in the engine were so thick that I couldn't get it over 20km an hour. I had to sit in a parking lot for 35 minutes with the engine running to warm up the fluids!

It's horrible. At -20 you feel every hair in your nostrils. The air is so dry your skin dries out faster than you can imagine. It's too cold to snow so all you get are ice crystals that appear suspended in mid-air.

wondercollie, how do the poor people cope in those kind of temperatures? When I picture that kind of scene I picture quilted puffa coats, really expensive technological fabrics etc The price of ski wear and thermal lined this or goretexed that is unbelievably expensive. Is it the same over there? How do poor people afford to run their cars for 30 minutes until it can move and heat their homes to a safe level when there's extremes outside?

When I say poor I mean working class with very little spare income. I'm trying to put myself in that kind of scenario.
