Well a stormy night and morning with hammering rain and high winds here. But now the clouds are clearing and we have a bit of sun.
BIL is still hanging on, he got through the dialysis and apart from a short period in the early hours where his heart rate struggled he is now stable.
MIL and FIL are taking SIL down now and they will see what the specialist says today.

Ali so sorry to hear about BIL
WLL, Islandmaid and all others who have lost much loved loyal pets in the last few days ((((((((((Hugs))))))))))).
We had a break in just before Christmas, so we have been extra vigilant, it was gang of youths, They broke into quite a few houses, looking for money and jewellery, luckily I sleep downstairs and disturbed them by shouting, though I doubt if I could have done much if they had attacked me, apart from giving them a good wacking with my crutches they went through the locks on brand new double glazing in minutes, I am still waiting for the DG person to come and put new barrels, in the meantime DH has put alarms on all the windows. The police said the best deterrent was to get a big dog, but it is tough enough feeding ourselves let alone a pet as well, and then you have to factor in extortionate vet bills .
I too would steal food if my back was against the wall, but it would be a last resort, after foraging and using what I can grow and hunt. All the more reason not to let people know what you have in storage, because I believe it will come to people breaking in for food, this country is a dark place and no longer one I that am proud to say I am from.
The wrong people have been made to suffer while the rich are laughing at us all
And breathe
I need to check and rotate my stores this week and try and top up as much as I can while I can afford the prices:eek:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

VJsMUJM so sad for your friend and her husband, Hugs to you and Hugs to both of them, here if you need us!!
MAR Those are wise words indeed, it often comes that I look back to all the people who have gone into making me, ancestors are wonderful back up on down days. I know some of mine had very hard lives and I like to think on the days I'm feeling sorry for myself they put the collective boot to very good use on my behind. It always seems to work too!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Mentally you need to prep too eh - and that's not so easy as going out and buying a load of food. What I find helps (although I'm very tough thanks to a caustic Irish mother lol) is to think of my granny and g/granny gone before me. Half the family were miners and the other side were on the fishing boats - so however tough or hard my life is, and however miserable I feel, it won't come anywhere near theirs. And they survived, and passed the genes on to me.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I'm a pure heathen Celt here - mix of highland Scots, southern Irish, and one Spanish g/granny!0

Can't believe it, MIL just rang to say the nurses are amazed how well BIL is doing now, she said the implication was they expected he would have gone by now. They have lightened his medication to see how he reacts and he has opened his eyes. OH has dashed up to see how he is now. So although a long way to go, perhaps he can fight his way back.
Off to get some lunch for the kids and to get uniforms sorted for tomorrow.

Just heard that Russia has declared a state of emergency as the temperature has dropped to -74 faranheit...that's minus 59 degrees in centigrade.....dear me....the new ice age is here! I can't even imagine how cold that is....I get shivery at 10 degrees now!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Here's hoping Ali, this is why you wonder when you should call it a day and give up or keep trying. That is why I get mixed feelings over the loss of Mum. And she was put on that care plan that is causing so much controversy.
Thinking of you and yours and wishing you well.
2T, I don't know how one copes with such extremes and I doubt central heating could cope with that. It is often 10c in my home. Especially, overnight but I get under the bedclothes and cope. Pops, don't want to harangue you, but I've noticed in times past that you mention getting cold in the late evening and through the night, in a way which makes it clear that you're awake.
Our body temps drop on a cycle because we are supposed to be asleep when it's dark. It's what the species is intended to do because we have appalling night vision. If you're snuggled up under the bedcovers it's fine for your home to be at 10 degrees overnight.
I turn my heating off in the mid evening so that the temp drops by bedtime, otherwise I'd be too warm to sleep comfortably when I tuck myself down (mostly circa 10 pm, never later than 11 pm).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Another great post by GreyQueen! When we went to Northern Greece for our break at Christmas it was minus five outside so my OH left the heating on in the room. I usually sleep in an unheated room so I woke up at 3am convinced I was suffocating and couldn't breathe in the heat..it was awful! After that I made him turn it off the minute he got into bed and I slept like a log again.
We let the log fire die down about half an hour before we go to bed so its just a few embers left. We still put the fire guard up of course. We have lots of covers on the bed but I usually wake up hot about four am and throw them off till I cool off lol.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
