  • Just catching up with the thread. Sorry to hear the bad news from some - AliB that sounds pretty bad, sometimes people rally at the last minute but the nurses usually have a good instinct for how things are going. We had a very minor SHTF when the water was cut off for several hours for several miles around us - in the end it came back on but when it went off we didn't know whether it would be a day or two and it was good to know that we have enough water stored for a few days at least, without having to rely entirely on the water company.

The fire took place in the dark hours and they kept camera crews away as long as possible. It's not unsual to see our firemen covered in ice. Luckily nobody was seriously in it

Just a quick warning...this is not a joke or speculation. The European weather service have just issued an immediate warning : A Level one warning is the top warning for danger from natural conditions. It is Red on the danger level. Please be prepared for how dangerous weather conditions may become later today and later in the week. Thanks.

ESTOFEX UPDATE. A level 1 was issued for parts of Ireland and UK mainly for severe to damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado risk.

Stay warm and safe folks, will post later.

I read their detailed forecast and don't pretend to understand it. But I note their level one is actually the lowest of 1-3 . BBC weather has also forecast rain and possibly gales for our area - so I'm off for a shopping moment before it all sets in ;)
Edit: Great link though thanks. I think the weather is gradually taking over my bookmarks!

Yes, sorry, on that one it was the lower of the three...on others it is top level. The isobars are very tightly packed for the whole of the UK and Ireland and its going to get very stormy with damaging winds and high flood risk. It could well bring flooding to many parts. It will be on and off till Friday when the forecast is horrendous...fingers crossed it will fizzle out before then! I will keep adding the links if they are helping anyone.

Bizarrely we have gone from the forecast ten degrees up to 18! I had my thermals on first thing as it was freezing here last night but now have a light jumper on. Honestly, you don't know what the weather is going to do next.

I have some very interesting videos of strange events and weather in other countries.......would anyone like me to post them?

Right, off out to photograph a luxury villa in the sunshine...I may be some time LOL

  • Afternoon everyone, it's just started raining here but as of yet the wind isn't too strong, I expect it will be later though!!! Stay safe all of you wherever you are as the forecast does look daunting.

I'm really glad that I stocked up the storeroom well through last year, it is so comforting to know there is milk(albeit powdered), a bar of soap, toothpaste, flour, tins etc. to save having to go out when the weather is horrid. I've been replacing items as I've taken them from store and we are still looking pretty good in there. It's helping eek out the weekly food spend too as having brought at last years price the amount I have to spend each week now is still more or less the same. Having said that I, like everyone else here always have an eye to a bargain or offer. It's a nice comfort feeling though to still be able to feed ourselves well and not to have to up the budget!!!

Hope all the poorlies are getting better and those who love them are feeling happier, Cheers Lyn xxx.
