Quick query - would a junior hacksaw be good enough to make a hobo stove from a family sized tin of heinz soup...?
I'm acutely aware that all my cooking is electric-basedWe've got snow warnings out for tonight and tomorrow morning, to be followed by icy rain - so the roads will be a no go area for the day. I trying to get the RV to nip up to the shops today - we usually go mondays - and he says he cant be bothered!
Meanwhile I've decided to come off the no-sugar diet and I HAVE NO SWEETIES!!:eek::eek::( OMG, Mar, that is beyond horrible. Can we get the SAS (save our survivalists) to helicopter some in?
Going to let the day warm up a bit then take the pushbike to the lottie to dump rotables then get some grub and then out to the first of my two social engagements today. Weather's clear and dry so bet it's perishing, going to wait until 11 ish before venturing out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Goodness me what a situation to be in...no sweeties and off the diet!!!! My sympathies to you......and to all the ones not feeling too good at the moment.
The weather seemed a bit better last night so we went out to the Karaoke night and enjoyed ourselves. I drove home as my OH had enjoyed a few beers and by the time we got half way the roads were like rivers and full of loose gravel. It poured with rain all night and is still pouring with rain. Its bouncing off the car outside and the road and we are pumping out the water tank under the house so it doesn't overflow again .All the taps are running to drain it and I keep having to run for a wee with all the flaming water trickling around us LOL
Have guests coming for dinner later so hope they get here okay as their house is on top of a mountain up a dirt track. When it rains it goes into deep ruts...I am glad I am not driving down that today. Although he has a 4x4 sometimes even that is not enough here. I am starting to think we all need amphibious vehicles! Never seen so much rain, even here in the winter!
Stay safe and warm in the frost and snow...the only good thing is that its still 20 degrees out because we have got the rain. If it was sunny it would be cold and crisp!
Had one near thing this morning...the beautiful steak I bought to fry is tough...but I decided to do it in a Stifado sauce in the slow cooker.....wise move......“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

My aging border collie is a Pascoes gal, which not even Pets at Home stocks these days. But she does very well on it - so much so that I might try it myself :rotfl:.
The local pet shop orders it for me. At around £18 for a 15 kg bag, the cost is quite reasonable. In fact I can't find it cheaper myself once you factor in any delivery charge.
I always have a spare bag in reserve as part of my 'pet preparedness'.
Meanwhile owing to the freezer going bust recently, her diet has been supplemented with some tasty mutton and liver!
One happy canine0 -

So sorry to read so many are poorly atm hoping you're all on the mend very soon,I had something similar to the 'spinnies' earlier in the year and it was horrible.
I went to the docs and said the only way I could describe it was (from a dark and distant memory) I felt drunk but I don't drink lol
Wretched feeling,he gave me pills and said it was probably vertigo but it went, just as quick as it came very weird..
I now have yet another stye on my 'good' eyebut the good news is I can still see this time and I'm not putting anymore gloop in as I'm too busy so there :rotfl:
We've just been down to fill up at the garage as OH had let the petrol tank go down to empty *he drives me nuts doing this* so I dragged his butt out in the freezing cold to make a point!
Funnily enough there was quite a queue and most people in said queue had the obligatory bread and milk..
As far as I know we aren't even forecast any snow just rain here (famous last words) hope everyone up north is ok,warm and stocked up XX0 -
All this cold weather is making me remember my summer holiday very fondly.
I like to go on cruises, but since the Costa sinking, I've make sure I'm prepared for the worst.
I've got a water proof pouch on a cord which I can wear across my body.
While I'm on board I keep in the pouch the following.
A small torch
Our passports
My credit card
My front door key
The idea is, if the worst happens I can grab the pouch and have what we need to get home.
Cruising is very safe, but I thought I need to be prepared.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Very sensible. You would not get me on a cruise. I saw what happened when a ship got Noro virus on it.0 -
Its rainy here so dont think we will be in for snow - famous last words. I want to go to Mr T tomorrow and buy a 5 kg bag of broken basmati -£3 and a huge bag of pasta, then I can slow down on the food prepping. The freezers needs sorting so I can stock up at the little freezer shop on the market as I want mainly meat in the big freezer.Have been test driving their products and so far its very good quality especially the lamb which I love. Sorted all my home dried veg and thats looking good, and the mushy pea mountain has growed again :rotfl: also the stock of instant custard but OH is addicted to cake and custard so that wont last long. Also been getting 3 packs of wraps -purported to be M&S but the guy on the bread stall on the market reckons everything is M&S :rotfl:- much easier to store in the freezer than bread and Oh and DS are loving them at the moment.
All in all very comfortably off in the food department as Oh is not doing so good nowadays and I dont really get out much. The kids could shop for me but they have enough to do. I am also stocked up on wool so can sit out the snow quite happily if we get it...oh flipping heck I have no sweeties!Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
