Preparedness for when

I've been working on an evac plan for a while now after reading a really great idea on a site,I think it may have been Survivalmom but not sure..
It suggested having a plan based around times e.g
5 minutes warning
1 hour warning
24 hours
Obviously the longer you have the better but it helps to prioritise and have a list handy to reduce panic.
Brilliant idea thats got me thinking now, thanks.I'll always have full cupboards, bursting even and plenty of food, tins for easy heating, heck even scoffing cold if it comes to it, yeast and flour for bread making, dried milk powder, candles, winter car box, plenty of blankets etc but I'm just relaxing with it now. I see myself as just being sensible now and not letting myself getting carried away with food hoarding. I've come to realise that my food hoarding behaviour was feeding my psychological need to be in control but that was eating me up also.
I'm fed up of being wound up so tightly about what might happen, sat on the PC day after day talking about what might happen that I'm not at all enjoying my here and now. I need to relax and remove myself away from misery and doubt. Just something I have to do for me. It's a good thingYou've all taught me so much and now I can just be aware and do things sensibly. Thanks Mar
I like what you say here fuddle and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I had to make myself come off the pc because mse sucked me in. Yes we should be living in the moment but knowing that we have a backup safety net, which I think you already have and which I know I have. My prepping is all round and basic but I have too much of some things, although I know I will save lots just by using my toothpaste and cleaning stores. I eventually would like to have just one in use and a spare, lol but maybe the country will be in better shape by the time I get through them all
I saw a statement a couple of days ago about vat going up to 25% so that plus devaluation does make sense of buying stuff now. Oh what a dilemma, its always a toss up between saving pennies or gaining space in the house and improving energy flow and good feng shui. Which one gives us most peace of mind? I am not sure
Me too and seconded, I swing from philosophical with a rational mind to complete anxiety and panic regarding what might be around the corner. The world is going mad and the more I know and find out the worse I feel. I like to feel in control I guess even if in reality thats not the case. Mum says she'd rather not know and thinks I exagerate and read to much on the internet, but I like to be informed. I get a[STRIKE] bit[/STRIKE][STRIKE][/STRIKE]realy obsessive about information and finding out stuff. Especially if it has the potential to effect me. My brain has problems shutting down and I get so absorbed in stuff that the only thing that stops me is total exhaustion or my immune system. I am in a constant state of alert, in part due to my current situation but also because of my past. I recently collected over 100 cans of beans thanks to some coupons. gave half to the food bank and some to mum. She says she is worried about my siege mentality and hoarding (ie bulging cupboards and freezer ) She has suggested psycoanalytic therapy might be the answer !!!!! If she thought I was prepping in any way who knows what she'd say. My main concern is not having money, but any other crisis that comes my way will at least be easier to ride out if I prep beforehand.
2tonsils Hope you are safe tonight. The storms you are having sound terrible and so does the situation in Greece. Thanks for keeping us informed.
Thanks to the replies yesterday regarding my tumble dryer crisis. I eventually opted on a good deal from JL on an AEG. I wonder if it will last as long as my old faithful of 19yrs, somehow I doubt it but fingers crossed.
Thanks also for the posts on the bio stove and the frontier stove. Loving the bio stove but both look great. Something else to add to my wish list once we have recovered from yesterdays expense.
Off to bed now0 -
Just got this, I haven't read the others yet..
http://www.ukweatherforecast.tv/weather-warnings/
There is mention of floods next week in the Uk again, it must be fairly well known as they just mentioned it on Sky news. Will post when I get updates.
Meanwhile we are still in the storms here on and off. Quiet all night but poured this morning again. If it clears a bit we might go to see all our friends at the church table top sale to have a natter. Have a good day folksxxxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Thanks for the weather links, very useful. A snowflake or two would be nice for the Christmas fair tomorrow, but no more!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Ha ha....just got this through my email....I was actually lying in bed this morning wondering if anyone would actually panic....it seems they already are but not in the places I expected them to!

Daft beggars. Who gives a t0ss what the Mayan calendar is doing (apparently one section is ending and another commencing, not the end of the world).
The Mayan culture wasn't able to deal with climate changes and didn't manage to predict the Europeans' arrival, so I can't imagine that their astrophysics was up to much.
I was reading the list of contents of the survival kits and mis-read soap .....and rope..... as soap-on-a-rope and had a brief hysterical flashback to 1970s christmasses in which those blasted things featured quite strongly.
Today, I shall be prepping on the allotment and getting Mum to assist at home with some minor DIY as she has a drill and I don't. Am already planning Spring 2013's planting because I'm not a Mayan, just a bog-standard anglo saxon peasant.
Heard on the radio that 2 Scottish ski resorts are opening today which will bring pleasure to a lot of people and money into the economy, so that's a good thing.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning fellow batties.
Here in my part of the UK it is grey and damp - so what's new?
Not a hint of frost let alone snow. I'm a little disappointed but only because I'm fully prepped and don't have anywhere to go. That said I might just go and watch Santa and his elves arrive at a local farm shop.
As for doom and gloom I do wonder at times whether ignorance is bliss. Back in the 1970s my (ex) in laws used to visit a Pentecostal church and me and hubby sometimes went along to keep them happy. The preacher - a very charismatic and convincing man was warning of imminent 'Armageddon' through war in the middle east. I became quite down and wondered what the point of anything was. So I stopped going. The lesson is I could easily have spent the last 40 years depressed and on a knife edge. And I'd have wasted a good chunk of my life.
As ever in these things it can be tricky to find a balance. I alternate between sticking my fingers in my ears as in 'la la la I'm not listening' to being convinced something very bad (pick from any number of scenarios) is just round the corner.
But hey it's a hopeful day today and I'm baking bread for the coming week. Doom is officially cancelled for the weekend! :T0 -

I think if women carried on and coped throughout the Victorian times, then 2 world wars, then we can. We've got it good - even now0
