Quick query - would a junior hacksaw be good enough to make a hobo stove from a family sized tin of heinz soup...?
    :D
I'm acutely aware that all my cooking is electric-based :(

Mardatha I thought the same thing. Maybe that's why that woman thinks she is rare? None of us would be that stupid. Only my closest family knows.

yeah i agree very very stupid to give so much information, i often think the same thing about the extreme couponers show, they even show the front of their house! if i was gonna raid someone for food in even these desperate times before a shtf scenario people like that would seem an easy target

we have a rule at mine the first rule of food club, you don't talk about food club, the second rule of food club, you don't talk about food club

and that just refers to the food stores, forget about my survival cupboard :p

Not caught up yet as not been online since last tues.

Had the week from hell out own SHTF week.

First one of the cats dissappeared, not the big Tom who you wouldn't worry as much about-he can look after himself and occasionally does go off over night. But the little girl, our Fifi who is so small people still think she is a kitten, even tho she is 2. She never goes far and always spends alot of time indoors, and rarely ventures out in the dark.

She went out at about 3pm and just never came back, we all took turns walking the streets and looking for her but no joy. Even overnight everytime the light went on at the front (on a movement sensor) we went down to see if she was there. Next morning still nothing, kids were upset but they had to go to school.

Decided after the school run as it was alot quieter to have another walk around and see if I could hear her trapped somewhere-she has a very high pitched, quiet cry. Finally found her in neighbours garage locked in-luckily he is self employed and came home shortly afterwards to pick up some tools. A bit  as he has previously done this to another neighbours cat and he still insists on not shutting his garage door properly when he is in and out. You know what cats are like a small crack under a door is even more an invitation than one wide open. Still at least we know where to try first if any of them vanish again.

Then Tues night whilst making tea I turned from the cooker to the worktop and suddenly my whole world seemed to spin and I almost fell over, dizzy doesn't cover it. Things settled enough so I finished tea, but ended up going to bed early. Next morning I couldn't even stand up without falling down, double vision, shaky vision, everything spinning even when lay down with eyes shut. Crawling to the toilet with eyes barely open to be sick then lay down with a bowl still throwing up. I don't think I have ever felt so bad. Dr reckons its Labyrinthitis and I have been in bed and on pills all week. OH has had to step into the breach and the stores have been a great help, although I do think I need more "easy" to cook meals for him and the kids in the freezer.

Dr reckons my ears are also full of wax which can't help and blood pressure is slightly raised so I need to rest up and go back on weds and book in for the ears to be cleared. He also gave me strict instructions about certain symptoms to watch for-because of the strong drugs I am on and my asthma medication, plus the increased blood pressure, and to not be afraid to call 999 if they occur (even the doc knows how I try to keep struggling on lol).

In the Dr's yesterday also bumped into a friend who is also our vicars wife and she was wonderful and said the church is a community and there are plenty of people who will help if we need it-and gave me a hug. Nice to know. The vicar picked up DD1 from gymnastics with his daughter and dropped her off for us yesterday and alot of friends both from church and school have offered to do the school run if we need them to. People can be really wonderful.

So sat here on the laptop, wrapped in a blanket, feeling rubbish. But about a million percent better than I did weds morning-still a bit dizzy and "spinny" but hope to be up and about properly in a few days

In a way its made OH and I think about prepping even more and things can happen so quickly. A bit worrying about how we would cope if the SHTF seriously big style as we both rely on a few drugs just to live day to day. Made me think about 2T and the problems with getting drugs in Greece-really brings it home to you. If I hadn't been able to get the drugs so quickly I wouldn't have stopped being sick and would likely have become dehydrated very quickly.

OH has recorded "uk preppers" for me to watch when I feel up to it, anyone seen what its like yet? It will be interesting to see the difference between the UK and US.

Kittie, what I have heard so far agrees with what you just posted. Just seen our weather forecast for Greece and I wish I hadn't seen it. The dangerous storms will continue, tomorrow areas over 600 feet above sea level will get their first snow and it looks like the big freeze will come down to just above us like it did last year. We had torrential rain earlier but now the sun is out again. Like my OH says, you don't know what is coming from one moment to the next. Clothes layers are on and off like a yo yo.

Considering that ,we have decided its too risky to book a hotel when the ferry might not be running due to the weather/strikes/ whatever around Christmas . So we plan to take the ferrry at the last minute if the weather is okay and there is no strike and take a list of hotels with us to stay at. Loads of hotels where we intend to go so it should not be a problem.

It does mean we need to prep the car for snow and ice though , just in case we get some while we are there for a few days and have to travel back in it, as they are high mountainous roads that we will have to take.

It might be quite romantic to get snowed in once we are in the hotel overlooking the lake.

Labyrinthitis is horrible, and be aware that it often comes back at times when you're not 100% ALibobsy. When I first got it the OH took me to the docs over a twisty steep hill road on the back of the bike!! and I could hardly get off because I didn't know which up was earth or sky!

    Hugs to you Ali,
Many, many years ago Mum took ill like that when working in a shop and was affected for what seemed like a long time(she also went deaf)the Dr said vertigo but I suspect it was what you have.

Frightening...so happy that your cat was found safe and sound...

I am a bit worried as the last few times I had colds etc I got the odd bout of dizzyness when standing or turning around-nothing like this though. I hope it isn't something that keeps coming back tho :(.

My Gran I know had some kind of condition, but I don't know what that led to her having hearing aids in her 40's and got worse as she got older. Trouble is without knowing what she had I have no way of knowing if it was something random or could be inherited.

OH has done his best, but I think he is starting to struggle and getting bad tempered now. Its just his way really and I know he will be sorry later so I try to ignore him, just not what I need when I feel so bad. Cos he was moaning at the kids I tried to do some clearing up and all the bending over made me feel so bad I nearly colapsed again. He has gone out to get something for tea as he says he "can't face cooking". At least its not takeaway, as he has gone to the supermarket. Will probably be ready meals or pizza. TBH I think it has really shocked him how much work the kids are and how relentless it can be. I mean he is normally alot more help than most men I have met and is a great Dad, but like other men they don't realise how many little bits of things you have to do during the day.
