If Chris Evans is as rude to his colleagues as they say he'd get his comeuppance in politics, they'd shout right back. No place for shrinking violets! It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

MrsL you stay right here, we need you! You dont need to keep us all cheerful - it does people good to have a wee rant and a moan from time to time, it restores the balance as we swing back again to normal. Well as near normal as any of us lot ever get...
Looking back on the EU vote I just think it proves that even when you offer people a choice on their own future they dither and witter - and then want to change their minds. :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Ultimately - we are all human beings and need a reasonable personal "daily timetable" built around that fact.
EDIT; It's an argument I've had to have personally - more than once! - in an office context even. That being that it wasnt reasonable to expect people to start work before a reasonable time - and they were simply unable to come up with a logical reason as to why people should. So they lost...
People who don't put in the effort don't get the rewards though do they? Maybe a few anti social hours would have seen you rewarded with a promotion, a pay rise and a better house in "home area"Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0 -

I seem to have spent aeons trying to be positive and trying to support people through troubled times but I can see now that was not best use of my time and energy and I'm tired. I spend far too long online these days, it's not helping any of you and it's certainly not helping me. Time off is needed!
I'm really sorry MrsL it was absolutely not my intention to upset you or anyone) or make you question being here - my (clearly badly worded, I've a very dry sense of humour, which does not come over in text) post was meant to value each approach to "getting on with it" and infer all are probably necessary: the stoics, the encouragers and the challengers. Much of my interest in prepping is not just the physically practical but the emotionally practical - how do we cope as humans together in tough times. Sorry - I'll withdraw, as I've done this more than once now, and really don't want to disrupt/upset people.

No-one should feel the need to withdraw. No-one.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Lyn I'm sorry if you feel you need a break from the thread, but we've often gone off-topic before and always get back on track after a while
And we are meant to be prepping for "if the SHTF", and a lot of people feel that the SHTF is exactly what's happening right now.
For myself, I am finding it really helpful being able to read and post here about the current situation, because it enables me to sort my own feelings and worries out, and put my own point of view, in what I regard as a "safe place". Otherwise it would mean using Discussion Time which can be a very nasty place
The 'S' really has HTF big time big time in the last couple of weeks, and people want to prepare for the fall out, which will continue to happen for the next few years, at least.
As the 'S' is political, then it's inevitable that politics will end up being discussed in connection with this.
However, I'm not so sure this is a 'safe place' if one holds a minority opinion, or introduces a theory for discussion that challenges the majority.No-one should feel the need to withdraw. No-one.
That's why I've withdrawn from discussing the current events on this thread. I could see I was causing upset, and I don't want to upset people
I've noticed a few other people in the minority have also mentioned they are withdrawing from the discussion.
Maybe I shouldn't feel the need to withdraw, but I feel it's for the best.
I fully intended not saying ANYTHING else, but did just want to make these comments.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I agree with Goldiegirl, and others.
I'm aware that some of my views and beliefs aren't those of the majority on this thread : and although I greatly respect everyones right to challenge others, and to put forward their own perspectives on current events I just don't feel comfortable posting here at the moment.
I'm having a break and going to catch up with health and other rather tedious issues here at home; which is mainly why I prep. This does not mean that I do not hold strong views and opinions about the current political, financial and environmental situation; but that I prefer not to risk offending others by responding subjectively rather than objectively to emotive issues.0 -
Hello all
Cappella I very much agree with your earlier post about getting on with the prepping but I would hate to see anyone here feel they needed to withdraw from the thread .
I always enjoy Lobbys two pennorth on things and pretty much all posters on here have interesting things to say and think about . It has probably not been noticed but I myself withdrew from the thread a few weeks ago , it was meant to be for a few weeks as I didn't feel I had anything helpful to contribute to the ongoing discussion having made up my mind on the vote and sent off my postal vote .
Everyone has their own views as is their right . In the situation politics was bound to raise it's head and that can bring out strong feelings .
Over the years I have gathered so much helpful information from this thread as a lurker and then a poster and have had many a laugh - whats not to love about being with so many discworld lovers ?
We all have strong views and live in the real world instead of wandering around accepting whatever we are told and at times that can lead to dissent but I hope we can keep on keeping on together .
Hurry back Lyn I need to talk polytunnels and dehydrators !!!
polly xIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
So, basically the minute there is some actual S that wanders too close to the F - half the preppers in here walk off in a huff? LOL magic, good start!
We all need to get over ourselves and as Polly says, talk dehydrators with MrsL !0 -

Yes the thread has got a bit sidetracked - it happens from time to time. But I think we may all be forgiven in that what is happening is pretty seismic and could affect lots of us in lots of ways. Plus at times like this people maybe need to offload. Heck I have even seen complete strangers discussing it. What happened to being British and keeping ourselves to ourselves?
I haven't noticed any particular sharpness on here but maybe I'm too sensitized by the vitriol on the Guardian. That said on one occasion I did have to make myself sit on my hands - instead of writing an immediate response to something. And this dear readers is not a good idea if you have carpal tunnel....:(0
