Isn't that pretty much the norm, with General Elections?
When did we last have a Government, who received over 50% of the total number of votes cast, let alone over 50% of the possible votes?0 -
There's a lot of 'sour grapes' on Landlordzone at the moment with words like 'racists' being bandied around. I took myself out of the discussion some weeks ago. Obviously most of the vitriol there is from landlords who won't have such an easy life letting to EU immigrants as we did previously.0

I personally think we should be polling the pre-schoolers. Their generation is going to be the most affected by this and only they should be allowed to decide.
The problem with that is, they have no experience of life outside the EU, so you are asking them to choose between something they know, and something they don't know.
It'd be like asking them to choose between beer and Christmas.0 -

When did we EVER have an election or a referendum in which 100% of the eligible poulation voted? Let's not forget the 28% who didn't bother to venture an opinion this time either.
Compulsory voting anyone?0 -
I wish that people were as enthusiastic in voting in general elections as they have been in this referendum. Although, with the system we have, many people feel their vote is wasted. One life - your life - live it!0

The youngest cohort adults have been asleep on the job for a couple of generations now. As in, not even bothering to register to vote, never mind actually voting. It's a few mouseclicks on a website to register, people, how hard can it be? Couldn't you spare the 5 mins away from your FaceFart obligations? Sheesh.
Yet they've come out of the woodwork in large numbers to vote in the referendum. we've had people in their early thirties registering to vote for the first time, FGS.
And now, some of them are learning for the first time, that your pov doesn't always win.And it's a big scandal and someone must be blamed and if we get an online petition and shout and scweam and scweam until we're sick, the rest of the country will have to accomodate us.
I just hope none of them are venting this garbage in my hearing IRL or I will struggle not to be extremely sarcastic indeed.:rotfl:
ETA; jk0, I like you as an individual, insomuch as one can know anyone via a forum, and I respect that you do your own work on your own rentals, rather than sitting back and counting the money. But what I really admire is that you absolutely seem to grasp that the interests of the rentier class, such as landlords, aren't the same as the interests of the great run of people. Kudos!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Can we draw a line under this now, please? For some, TS did HTF in quite a real & unexpected way yesterday and it's not much fun reading how much they deserved it. One of my kids will be lucky to have a job next week, never mind his training as an electrical engineer - and no-one else is likely to take him on at 26 as an apprentice is much cheaper - and another has had to let go of her dream of studying abroad. I didn't make up my mind which way to vote until the last few days, as I too think the EU is doomed and hugely flawed, but I really don't like to see others glorying in their misfortune. Hope this doesn't offend someone & get taken down.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

There have been many elections where, IMO the wrong person/party won, but that's how life and democracy works.
It doesn't matter who you vote for - the government always gets in.
And rarely remember their pre election promises.
(Didn't take them long to renege on the NHS promises / claims did it?)Bedsit_Bob wrote: »..... but that's how life and democracy works.
TBH I'm not sure democracy does work.
I tend to agree slightly with Thomas Jefferson - A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51 percent of the people may take away the rights of the other 49
And the man I agree most with is Aesop: he wrote much more than fables -

thriftwizard - if the Brexit situation has a negative impact on your family then I am truly sorry. Nobody on this thread is glorifying in anyone's misfortune. I am sure, once the dust settles, your children will survive and make good in the world - if they have you as a role model they will be fine. And I am not bulls******g here, I really mean that, judging by the OS resilience demonstrated in your posts on this thread.
Ok, so back to creating menues based on the Best of British produce.....
