    Anyone see this on Zerohedge:

Has anyone actually seen the postal ballot yet?
Mine isn't due for another 10 days if memory serves.
That is appalling. There was no need to put a picture of a hand holding a pencil on the document. I hope this comes back to bite this government on the backside.

That would be a clear breach of the Electoral Commission rules, hence my question above. I would be surprised if this is genuine, and if it turns out to be fake, the idea will then be muted that they were hastily withdrawn and less biased ones printed.

I know it's not greatly reliable, but it's on the bbc with a statement from the council involved:
Following criticism of its voting from by the Electoral Commission, Bristol City Council spokesperson said: "This form is designed to explain the logistics of voting by post and not to suggest how someone should vote.

"The placement of the pen graphic was entirely incidental and we do not believe that anybody could reasonably be influenced by such a graphic.

"However given current sensitivities, for all future postal vote dispatches, the form and graphic will be amended."

That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Now it hadn't occurred to me about it being fake.....methinks the whole Referendum business is getting grubbier and sneakier by the day!

Would love to hear the politicians' comments on it.

    Thank you.
It never occurred to me that different local authorities would design and print their own forms.
If this had been used it would have formed the basis for a clear legal challenge had Remain won.

Yeah, me neither. I wonder why that would be?

I would imagine membership strengthens communications on security between member states .
The fact that real facts on the pros and cons of staying or leaving are not being given has left everything open to scare stories rather than concrete points to consider . I don't know if we will keep existing cooperation with other countries and how much more our less we will be vulnerable .

    polly

Of course I don't have a dog in this fight, but one thing that was reported over and over in our media (during and the months after the Paris attack) was how lack of communication and information sharing was adversely affecting what was actually known about terror cells in the EU.
    Don't know if that's true...

:) I'm not paying the slightest bit of attention to the media campaigns on either side of the debate. And I haven't from the start. My decision has been many years in the formulation and is based on RL experiences and observations of the world around me.

I don't need some politico or their hired flack to p*ss on my foot and tell me it's raining.

mila politicians in the UK are held in about equal esteem with estate agents (realtors) and child sex offenders. And a lot of people here don't trust the media, which is exactly how it should be.

As for information-sharing, it's only as good as the structures the individuals on the ground are given to work with, and it's clearly a bit ropey now. Can't see Remain or Brexit changing that.

Re national security, we're voting on the EU, we're not voting on leaving NATO. We do have still have a navy, although the days where we ruled the oceans of the world are long gone. For which the rest of the world gives daily thanks, I'm sure.

Funnily enough, back in the 15th century and before, we used to keep control of our coastline by simple expedients called watchtowers, with militia stationed on the coast and some very low-tech methods such as archers and beacons. It ain't flippin' rocket science, it's a case of recognising a problem exists and putting measures in place against it.

    Most politicians, by most people.

Some are good eggs, but it's hard for most to tell the difference.
