Bedsitsit Bob - this is partly why I'm finding it so difficult to come to a clear and firm decision. I've looked online for a fully monetary breakdown. What do we contribute and what do we get back exactly? How EXACTLY is funding allocated? And I've come up with nothing either transparent, mtangible or, frankly, even vaguely understandable to anyone without advanced degrees in economics.
And while millions is being wasted by both the exit and remain factions the world continues to go to hell in a handcart.
My father used to say
"it doesn't matter WHO you vote for, the government always gets in."
And this whole referendum to me validates his statement. Whatever the result we'll be left with the same greedy, self serving people in power. Whether they're British or European the whole lot of them are tarred with the same brush. Pigs and men? Impossible to tell one from the other in the end.
Maybe on the day I'll just toss a coin. Heads to stay, tails to leave. A spoilt ballot paper is rapidly becoming the most attractive option though. That way I'll have exercised my right to vote (that's vitally important to me) and whatever the outcome at least then I won't feel personally responsible for the ensuing mess.0 -
Hmm. I don't think any of you will be voting to stay in if you watch this:

... skim watched (It's an hour long!), but not exactly politically unbiased
Some interesting figures though. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I think I'll vote stay, unless some disenfranchised younger people persuade me they favour a different vote.
'Afterall we', us oldens here, are principally voting more on someone else's futures than our own.
I'm voting with my children's future in mind. For myself it makes little difference, probably a net benefit from staying.
Young people are idealistic and believe that Europe is a Good Thing. They probably still believe that in countries with massive youth unemploymentIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Mar So glad you had such a lovely day , I bet you are totally shattered now .
GQ I hope you've thawed out now . When questioning why the sudden deluge affecting a number here did you not consider the sun shining on the righteous - well apart from New shadow who got my weather .
Take it as a sign !
Nice to see I may not be a lone voice here

The weather here was not good yesterday and I'm off work. Bah....
Anyway, I've spoken to farmers in my area and some are voting in and some are voting out. Majority voting out. We don't get back as much money as we put in, but that's a bit like paying subs to be in any club.
Personally I feel you have more influence being in a meeting room than standing by the coffee machine.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Monring all.
Stll grey and cold in the purportedly warm and sunnier parts of the septic isle. Hopefully it'll be better at the weekend as I have some gardening to do.
armyknife, based on family history, I could easily live another 40 years - there are presently 4 generations of my family in adulthood, from early their twenties to early their nineties. So I do consider that I have a right to express an opinion. And, having lived my whole life under the EU without having been consulted, that the opportunity to do is far overdue.
I know it's unfashionable to say it (and probably even heretical) but sometimes young people don't make the best possible choices because of unavoidable lack of life experience and because the rational parts of the human brain are not fully-formed until the early/mid twenties.
Which is why just about everyone who has made it past the young-and-daft stage of life has some memories of cringe-worthy decisions which they'd rather forget. Me included.:rotfl:
Based on what I hear from the youthful sector, including my immediate neighbours, they never vote in anything because there's no point. From my viewpoint, both personally and professionally, it will be the middle-aged and older cohorts who will be doing most of the voting.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

North Berwick was gorgeous! Breeze off the sea but it was warm enough to walk along the front in a tshirt. Unheard of! I had fish & chips, ice cream, a wee cake, and brought home tablet and rock. LOL the world can end tonight (after I've et the rock)
I was in North Berwick last Friday :j:j:j up there for a family wedding. If I'd any idea you were near enough for a day trip, I'd have been a *lot* more perturbed at not managing to see you! Will be in that area again (as we have family there now) you're on my list, Mar :rotfl:
I took a few travel preps too - windup radio, that sort of thing, but didn't need to use anything other than my water bottle
As far as the EU goes - I voted for the Common Market, back in the day, when it was genuinely just a free trade area. I didn't vote for political consolidation or any of the rest of it, and I'll be voting against that now, though in the long term (and I'm a science fiction fan, so that means hundreds of years) I think it will suck us in ... still got to vote for what I think is right, though.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
GQ I'd been going to ask what you were going to do with the FB pies now you're not eating carbs....needs must when the devil drives, as they used to say.
I've been dithering about the EU vote tooI watched an interesting prog on BBC2 last night Britain & Europe: For Richer or Poorer
Among others, Laura Kuenssberg interviewed a cheese-maker, who sold a lot of his Cheddar to Europe, especially France, and was worried he'd lose that market and go out of business if we left the EU, and a couple in Kent who make hovercraft, would you believe, and were frustrated that they'd had to turn down business from other countries (really sorry, I can't remember which ones, I think one was Brazil) because EU rules made it impossible to trade with them, so this company would be better off if we came out.
It left me feeling I'll probably vote out, unless the Remain side come up with something really convincing!0 -
Morning everyone, been MIA for a LONG time, hope I'm welcome back!
Had some months with personal SHTF, but getting a bit less rocky now and needing to 'see' you all again.
DH and I are both voting out, for similar reasons to many of you who've expressed an opinion. I feel that the 'facts' as spewed out by either side are little more than guesswork - until we actually come out or stay in, who knows what will happen? Maybe all of it, or none of it. Our Northern town is getting rather full of extra people, of all nationalities including British, and our services are creaking at the seams. 2 of my adult children struggle to find suitable, affordable places to rent, one has been incredibly lucky enough to find a cheap place to buy but it's a very basic 2 bed terrace, and the deposit was eye-watering.
We're having a bit of building work done to improve the ground floor, we're staying put until the day we leave in wooden overcoats, and are battening down the hatches, financially speaking.
Sorry for the long post, nice to see you all!
