Just copied this from FB - no offence to anybody at all in any area of the UK, but just to show you what i meant earlier ok :)
"In Ballater there were 7 whole streets in a row where water went half way up the second floor of homes, Aboyne has flooded, water receded, and flooded again. Folks are out volunteering up to their waists in filthy, fast moving, freezing water. A whole housing scheme in Ballater was forgotten about until yesterday and volunteers sent out to the area came across old folks and others sitting in their cold wet homes with no electric and no idea there is hot food and comfort available to them. Why are the press not telling everyone how bad things are across the whole of the North East!!??!!"

Thank you for posting that, Mar. I don't know what to say really - "How awful!" is totally inadequate :(

Oh my goodness! Poor souls! That's appalling. Surely it's someone's responsibility to know where vulnerable people are & prioritise their rescue? Even if the council offices are 6' underwater... who runs the scheme itself? Were they all off for a nice long cosy Christmas break, perhaps?

Let's face it, none of us are scientists on here .

sweeping and incorrect statement calicocat, there are qualified scientists on here :)

There is evidence based fact and there is theory plus vested interests and that is all I am going to say

Busy here trying to much reduce my shtf stores and all the storage containers. Its going to take another few months, giving stuff away here and there

VJsmum, I hate palm oil, another destructive money grabbing at any cost industry with the aim of lining pockets. I also hate all the burning that goes on when clearing rain forest etc. All that pollution in the atmosphere and beyond, circulating around and around and getting everywhere, all over the world. Things are absolutely not as simple as they seem and as the media would have the masses believe. Then there is the sun, that huge ball in the sky that keeps the earth functioning, without which there would be no life at all. Could it be that the sun is changing? It isn`t just a homogeneous globe but a complex mix, ever evolving and dying

I wasn't clear from M's post whether this was specifically a sheltered housing scheme, 'social housing' or what. If it is sheltered housing I would have thought that at least some of the tenants would have a daily warden call plus pendants/pull cords. You don't necessarily lose your facilties when you are older. Many of my former tenants would have been right on it and contacting all and sundry. (for a lot less).
And if it is just say a general housing association scheme, there should still be an emergency helpline. Whatever - I haven't seen any of this on the news which is incredible. It's also very worrying generally and I might have to dig out my tin foil apparel. Can you get ark building kits off Amazon?
    Not alltogether sure I'm joking....:(

It's certainly not what I am reading on my FB regarding Ballatar, Banchory and surrounding district. In fact a neighbour who just returned from there posted a link for funding as although they are inundated with offers of food, clothing and furniture a lot of food is going to waste as there is too much and what they are collecting for is people without insurance when the time comes.

Yes for a spell they were without telephone access but BBC Scotland have been reporting from there every day in the Scottish news and telephone access was set up for the emergency services and the doctors. It is dire, yes and in particular the loss of main access roads but everyone is pulling together and help coming in from across Scotland.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

This reinforces my point from yesterday though doesn't it? We can't rely in social media for correct and unbiased information and had the rest of the UK been made aware via generic media then all this wondering would not be taking place.

First thing I heard on the news when I turned the radio on was about the flooding in Scotland. May have been the luck of the draw of course, as I don't spend all day listening to the radio. Doesn't really mix well with my work...
