It might not, we really might have the situation that nothing humans can do will make any difference. Is that actually a reason to do nothing?
There's a good argument that the best thing humanity can do for the planet is commit suicide. I don't buy into that, but that means that the opposite is true, we need to do all we can to save humanity and our planet. (actually I just remembered an alternative, beloved of Golden Age science fiction, kill the planet in getting some of humanity off the planet and out into the universe).

It isn't a reason to do nothing...no, of course not, we have to help our species survive and thrive.

The point I was trying to make was more about what we are "told" about what is happening. I don't think we are, on lots of different levels not just climate change/weather now/how to cope with it.

What if...this planet is going through a cycle that we have yet to understand?

It's not just scotland/york/northeast.....this is global, and historically for us, quite new.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    Alternative 3?

Until your post, I wasn't aware of the programme, not sure what I was doing in the summer of 77 to miss it. I've found it on Youtube, and shall watch later, thank you.

The idea that humanity's only chance of survival was a galactic diaspora was common across a number of the Golden Age authors.

What resonated with me and has done for while, is that (personal opinion) , that we can all do individually what we can...due to what we are Told by those that apparently know better. Do we know they know better? ....always?

All any of us can do is control our immediate environment, outside of that i'm not too sure how much we can do to be honest.

Given a huge amount of what we are told comes from people with agendas other than enlightenment.
Part of what we can do is challenge the liars and vested interests, to be actively involved in forcing the poers that be to listen to our concerns.

It is possible that all the "evidence" that suggests a human cause to climate change is wrong. (after all climate change has its own set of agendas. However humans are fairly fragile, the conditions we need to thrive aren't that flexible. The planet can and has recovered from events that cause mass extinction (IIRC we currently think there have been 6 Extinction Level Events) however for humanity to thrive or even survive we are almost at the limit of change.

I found it when I was researching paranormal and conspiracy theories in one of my first jobs in the early 90s. There were lots of theories around that it was true, and accounted for some of the mass disappearances and those of prominent scientists. I threw out my notes years ago, and probably got rid of the books (and games!) that I worked on too. It was an interesting, if unusual, job!

This article in the telegraph from last January puts an interesting angle on climate change...who or what should be believed?

Let's face it, none of us are scientists on here and know what's going on really, or have the answers to lots of questions if we are honest.

We are if we are sensible, we are maybe guided by what we can control. I don't believe we can control the big picture, I think the planets and something else does the big stuff.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I know a 'leading' climate scientist and he is coming around to the opinion that we'll end up having to actively manage the climate system. For instance extracting some of the carbon we've already put up there. How is the really complicated bit.

Personally I am following Mrs LW's lead in getting my preps restocked as weather like the whole country has had recently (and the effects its continuing to have on people's day-to-day lives) is something we can at least prepare for, or at least try and mitigate.

My biggest problem is storage - I've just started reading the KonMari thread and think I need to do that in parallel to restocking (the only issue is available time to make headway in either direction). One step at a time...

I hope the weather relents very soon and that everyone remains safe...

I'm not a fan of the KonMarie, but each to their own , and I was once a huge hoarder , and am not now, so I know what works.
