I go on BBC news site, then onto the Scotland bit and then onto the Scottish newspapers. I get the info for around my MIL's area from the Press & Journal (as she doesn't let on much
).
By looking at the individual bits, you can glean quite a lot.
I must say I was surprised that the castle at risk of falling into the river seemed to get more coverage than the towns and villages.
I think a housing scheme in Scotland is the same as general council housing in England. I could be wrongNot dim.....just living in soft focus

Well my whole point is that the mainstream news people don't always cover this equally. Not arguing with anybody cos haven't got the energy and don't care anyway lol.
Still raining here, sick to death of it. Ordering more preps. Interesting discussion re the way the world is going.0 -
We can see what's going on with the weather and to a greater or lesser extent we're all suffering the effects of it, specially if the predictions of crop failures and possible food shortages do come to fruition. We've got two choices, 1) Ignore the whole thing, clear up the mess whenever a weather event happens and wait and see if the scientists are right or wrong or 2) All do something now to change how we live, make changes that are recommended to try and stop any further deterioration in the world weather patterns and hope that makes the difference that's needed.0

This reinforces my point from yesterday though doesn't it? We can't rely in social media for correct and unbiased information and had the rest of the UK been made aware via generic media then all this wondering would not be taking place.
Have to agree although I do rely on Twitter for an informed view by following Traffic Scotland who have access to camera shots and the likes of BBB Scotland news etc and as Doveling says local newspapers just the same as when the flooding was in England I would view the pictures and the news with horror but to be honest not really have a great idea where it was taking place? Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -
Looking at the flood warnings there are no severe alerts. When the media was awash with reports for York and Lancashire there were warnings of 'risk to life' flooding.
I'm not saying it's right but maybe that is a reason why the mainstream media isn't reporting as it was a week or so ago.
We are struggling in our locality today. It's mainly from run off and surface water. In one instance school children were trapped on a flooded school bus.0 -
Morning all.
Even if you don't give credence to human-caused climate change, what about the consequences of human-caused pollution, here and now, for you and your fellow human beings?
The city where I live has its centre under constant air-quality monitoring. Pollution from traffic is reckoned to burden lungs in the city centre equivalent to smoking ten a day. As a life-long non-smoker (and someone without a car) I am getting the dis-benefits of other people's choices. Tens of thousands of people die prematurely each year as a consquence of pollution generated by traffic.
Are a lot of these journeys necessary?

I have been reducing the FB pie-mountain a touch, due to having a few coming up to BB date at the same time, but am now ready to start gently re-stocking. Will be looking at levels of a few more things, also.
Also it is now accepted that smoking causes cancer. Only a charlatan would deny that fact.
In fact all the PR people who denied that smoking caused cancer are now working on the climate change denial program. So the public are being lied to because the vested interests are sowing seeds of doubt in the publics mind. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
I am trying to get back into shtf prep situation but now as it applies to me, getting older, single, cannot be doing with nipping up and down ladders to reach stuff etc. I didn`t get up planning to do shtf stuff but amazing how it all evolves
Started with just tidying stuff on shelves in kitchen cupboards as my lock n lock system went to pot, so now have moved shelves and gathered up more boxes from the shed, to end up with 3 or so neat stacks on each shelf. Then thought about re-labelling some and I did need my garden labeller, which needed re- charging. That was me then, delved deep into a heavy box to try and untangle wires and meantime dropping batteries all over the place. So more lock n locks later, the batteries are securely in separate labelled boxes ie AA AAA etc. All the batteries are protected from each other, being in a jumble and nose to tail is no good at all for battery life. Chargers are now in their own zip lock bags with their own cables. So yes, I feel good having done that and everything is now separated but overall in the one box, which is probably still heavy
While I was at it, I was in and out of my shed that has the 40w solar lighting system that I put up. Hardly any charging going on in there in there at this time of year and am being very careful to not fully discharge the 12v battery. Torches just don`t do it, yet again I have to go up steps, so ordered a good head torch as I need two hands
I just saw a post about someone with masses of edible seeds to use due to changed circumstances. That is similar to me, only mine is dried fruit ie berries, dates etc plus all sorts of nuts. I have reduced pulses and pastas by a lot and had already vac packed the nuts and it is cool in that shed. I still have far too much of everything and shtf can leave a different type of shtf in its place, ie I am drowning in foods mostly meant for an energy eating athlete. Enough of that, I`ll keep at it, little by little
I see the levels are starting to look wet again and a few lanes are closed. The whole country is drowning0 -
Just copied this from FB - no offence to anybody at all in any area of the UK, but just to show you what i meant earlier ok
"In Ballater there were 7 whole streets in a row where water went half way up the second floor of homes, Aboyne has flooded, water receded, and flooded again. Folks are out volunteering up to their waists in filthy, fast moving, freezing water. A whole housing scheme in Ballater was forgotten about until yesterday and volunteers sent out to the area came across old folks and others sitting in their cold wet homes with no electric and no idea there is hot food and comfort available to them. Why are the press not telling everyone how bad things are across the whole of the North East!!??!!"Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Minor SHTF here: didn't mention this yesterday as we thought it had been sorted, but our boiler's "gawn" again. Different fault, necessitating another part sent over from Germany at fairly vast expense, but there aren't many boilers that can handle the demands on ours & it's still cheaper than a new boiler. So no hot water until Thursday at the earliest!
Luckily we have an electric shower, and both the dishwasher & the washing machine heat their own water. It's not exactly cold out there, and we have lined curtains on all windows and doors and even quilted blinds in some rooms. I own a small Burco which is now sitting on the draining board full of hot water, and there's a kettle on the stove too. It's a minor inconvenience really, but to hear the Offspring, you'd think it was the end of civilised Life As We Know It!
Just wait until we get the promised power cuts... :rotfl:Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
