Ok.......i was wrong. when I woke up, rain had stopped for around 15mins.
Ended up going out to the shops to see if I could grab a bargain (2 double sheets, 300 cotton.....for a tenner... :T. ) . That is the finish of my towel and bedding preps for job loss or retirement, I think I have enough now to last me out until death.
I have lived all over the country from birth, so where people come from means little to me. Good people are good people, the rest is just geography. I was born in Wales...... that normally means I should have a certain percentage of folk disliking me...however I was only there a few weeks if that I think. ( I like Wales by the way and have had various hols there) .
Since getting in, have been through one of the many food drawers I have, and sorted out what can be SHF food stores, and what needs eating within months/now/or this year.
I don't actually have that much..... certainly not my usual stores. Probably due to bf using them up and thinking i'm bonkers (until a few days ago I had bread for toast in the freezer, he still took the mick saying oh my god are we eating the emergency bread...)
He isn't here tonight.....so am going to sort out the little I have, get it HIDDEN, and stored accordingly if the dates are good. In fact...he may well be banned for a couple of nights a week until I get my stores back to a more normal level and hidden....and some more due to possible food shortages etc.
I see some of scotland has been on the news tonight...not sure if the Real stuff has been reported about people, or just that some castle could collapse as have been cooking since got in.
Rain relentless here, some fields around here are going to flood I think, they are nearly there already.
Stay safe as always people.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

But how do we know anything we are doing, is causing it?
How do we know it isn't part of a natural cycle?0 -
The way the modern world treats the planet and all it offers us I think we have to be contributing. For me, that's a given and as we are contributing we should reign our wants right in and stop adding to the changes that are probably happening naturally too.0

Why take a chance? By the time they decide it may be too late...
That is my attitude as well. It is better to be safe than sorry. I doubt that the extreme swing is down to anything other than human activity. If it were entirely down to natural causes we would probably still have to counter it to avoid all the worst outcomes. It would also be considerably slower than how it is actually happening. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

It really doesn't matter whether its man made, man assisted or purely natural, the effect on the human race is going to be catastrophic and any action we can take that ameliorates that effect is going to be worthwhile. If we can stop global temperatures rising by more than 1.5C its possible we might not loose South Sea Islands, its possible that a whole range of other predictions could be averted. Not doing anything means that sea levels will rise, that major ocean currents and therefore weather patterns will change and it makes no difference whether its a natural cycle or completely human caused, because the results will mean that human lives will have to change worldwide and many for the worse (and large numbers of humans are likely to die as a result).0 -
I get what he's saying though.
What if, sea levels rising, ocean currents changing, weather patterns too.......
Are all just part of the way a small planet works?
And that things are a changing possibly beyond our control.
To think we as humans can change how a planet works in it entirety could be quite arrogant. Not that we shouldn't do what we can to preserve what we immediately have control over....but...
Maybe, it doesn't really matter what we do on a grand scale, and that what happens happens with or without us being here.. ?Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

It might not, we really might have the situation that nothing humans can do will make any difference. Is that actually a reason to do nothing?
There's a good argument that the best thing humanity can do for the planet is commit suicide. I don't buy into that, but that means that the opposite is true, we need to do all we can to save humanity and our planet. (actually I just remembered an alternative, beloved of Golden Age science fiction, kill the planet in getting some of humanity off the planet and out into the universe).0 -

What resonated with me and has done for while, is that (personal opinion) , that we can all do individually what we can...due to what we are Told by those that apparently know better. Do we know they know better? ....always?
All any of us can do is control our immediate environment, outside of that i'm not too sure how much we can do to be honest.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
