catznine, I've seen instructions online for knitting carrier bags into doormats etc; did you knit any doormats? just wondering how long they'd last

    < note to self - don't use biodegradable ones > :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    Hello V and all

Ta very much. :) I love the cake and I like Marm*te too!!

Can I be the official hairy garden twine wrangler? It's to fill the gap when paracord runs out....

My OH says he feels very honoured too, and would like to be official spade splatterer for any UIG's (or zombies). He is polishing and sharpening his spade as I type.

My crazy dog is being volunteered for official hunting hound for anything that moves , anything smaller than her (about 12 inches then).

Sorry to hear what is going on for some of you out there in RL. ((((:heart:))))

Gosh you all type fast, am going back to read it all.....

:D Tell me more about knitting carrier bags ?
  • Hello again all

Forgot to say that I loved the 'Apocolypse' show too - even felt sorry for the bloke when they were trapped in the 'meteor shower', and first saw the 'zombies'.

Like the 'Truman Show' with zombies... Cue a 'doh!' when I saw it was in 2 parts....

It seems we are in very good company on how we feel about the EU and how they have treated Greece...the Archibishop (head of the Greek orthodox church) made this statement on tv last night
    http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_wsite1_1_27/10/2012_467647

He has a lot of power here and many of the people will listen to him as 95 percent of the population are Greek orthodox here. Good for him, first time I have ever been in complete agreement with an Archbishop.

Lot's of rumours and speculation going around here still, but the next two weeks are going to be crisis weeks. I have told a few close friends that it would be a very good idea to have food stocks and emergency money in for a while. It seems they are starting to listen to me now instead of calling me a scaremonger or sh** stirrer.

It is still amazingly hot and sunny here and its very stormy. It was so windy last night I was very careful driving home....just as well as there were two olive trees totally down on the way home. The retirement party went ahead and we had a fantastic time.

Despite the clocks going back one hour the village church bells started ringing like crazy at ten to seven this morning. What a bizarre time to wake people up...especially party people like me who didn't get to bed till 2am due to dropping people off then coming home and sitting with a cuppa chatting to OH.

Hoping all the people in the path of the hurricane stay safe and well, it looks horrendous on the radar maps and so many people in the cities it might hit. The earthquake in Canada was a shock at 7.7 this morning and so many earth tremors since then. You never know what is coming next do you?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday folks xxxxx

well basically, you cut them into long strips and knit with them :D I have some patterns and info downloaded years ago from t'interweb if you want copies?

ETA this website shows how to cut them http://cocoknits.com/resources/tutorials/plastic-bag-knitting/

and here's a tutorial for a different way of cutting http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-450744/Knit-shopping-bag.html

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sorry Mardartha, only just got back to pc! Been making more granny squares while listening to Terry Wogan Children in Need live at the Savoy (dsil working there) Dionne Warwick was on so a lovely mellow way to spend Sunday! Thanks Rosieben! I knitted a bag - it was very orange as the carrier bags were from Mr S. I got the instructions online.

We have also made Christmas streamers from carrier bags ala Shirley Goode style. The red and green ones are best for this! Long time since I made them but you fold them lengthwise, like a fan but a couple of inches across, paperclip them together then cut not all the way through on alternate sides, then unwind and pull out, the handles work well as a means of hanging them up!

(((hugs))) to dd&d and son - hope he gets better asap!

2tonsils - glad you are ok, I always look for your posts even though I have only made the one trip to Greece it now seems to touch home, such lovely people we met over there! It is interesting how folk are now listening to you re prepping, makes you wonder how bad things have to get before folk here in the uk would listen?

Just found out my sis is on uk preppers so must be a family thing:) We are not doing elaborate prepping just making sure we have alternative means of heating/cooking/lighting and a small supply of essentials. She was in guiding for many years and I was in guiding and scouting so that may explain it.

Shocking news about Canadas earthquake, luckily offshore (though not for Hawaii) I didn't know they were on the fault line (my geography is very poor)

Bit more surfing and then I am off to do some patchwork! Dh working so I can play! :j
