Well a productive day here, hair now looking vague respectable as hair done. The spent day with DH sorting garage and garden plus loft for winter. Emptied and sorted the loft in the garage. All garden equipment is cleaned, oiled and away. All car bits have been sorts with a pile DH is now photographing and will be putting adverts up soon to get shot and get some money. dead mouse chucked out along with 2 car loads of tip stuff.
We have 17 yes seventeen ratchet straps. Plus 6 decent lengths of decent rope.
DH surprised me with some rechargeable batteries and inspection lights, plus headlight of the led variety very useful
Hardtop on car and all salt and grit down, snow shovels inside, garden cut back for winter.
Loft in house all sorted, found my stash of winter woollies and thermals yippee plus also discovered that the Wellies have died. Proper perished rubber and a split in one side. They along with many others bits of crap are now in the bin.
2 lots of washing done and drying, plus dinner done for today and prepped for tomorrow. Reshuffled the freezer creating 2 drawers of space, and organised the meat by animal so I have half a chance to know what are defrosting. Noticed we need some milk in it so that is on the list
Oh and cars both taken to the cleaning boys, I know not by MSE but I cannot cope with cold water on my hands in the cold.
All in all feeling utterly and completely knackered
Time to chill and do naff all for the rest of the afternoonStart info Dec11

there's a US blog I read occasionally http://justincasebook.wordpress.com/ and she was talking about preps for Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast. A useful set of tips included, mostly common sense but there was one new thing I hadn't thought of: If the power is out it's useful to have things like individual sachets of mayonnaise so that you can make tuna sandwiches with tinned tuna without worrying about the fact you can't put the jar of mayo back in the fridgeIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

That's an interesting blog, I like her no-nonsense style.
I once read a throwaway remark by a Florida woman; their reaction to news of an incoming hurricane was to roast a joint of meat. This was so that you had cold cuts available for several days. Sooo, with one incoming hurricane predicted, she did what she normally did but the power outages following the storm were much worse than usual and they ended up eating cold canned stew (and sharing one can between two). She vowed to be better prepared for the next one.
Vanoonoo, glad to see you home from your breakdown. Feeling prepared is good. I don't have a car anymore but was away for a few days in Yorkshire with my brother in his car in August and we broke down. Had emergency cover, got picked up in less than an hour but I really wished that I'd had my hi viz waistcoat with me.
If I owned a car, I'd be looking at getting one of these from the poundstore in the kit, in case of breakdown/ tyre changing on the roadside. Might make the difference between being hit by another car and not. Simple, lightweight, cheap, non-perishable, maintenance-free, I did say cheap, didn't I? (£land and 99p St0re always seem to have them), what's not to like?
I always wear my hi viz waistcoat on the pushbike, trying to give motorists a fighting chance of seeing me. Although my preference is to be on the cycle tracks as much as possible, they don't lead everywhere I need to go.
That cake is a cracker, isn't it?
Today I have a breakfast appointment to assist a dear friend with a waffle iron. She wants to try it out and I'm always willing to eat, so it'll be the perfect arrangement. Then we shall go and give her allotment a radical haircut. Weather currently clear and dry, after about 24 hours of rain, so let's hope it holds.
Happy Sunday, everybody.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

we've not joined the euro Fuddle, thanks to various governments not just Cameron. The 'common market', which is how it all started, was a good idea - making trading much easier between European countries made sense. Brussels should have left it at that. I'm very anti-EU in case you haven't noticedBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hello Vanoonoo!
I would love to join your number! I have major recycling (hoarding) skills, Nothing thrown unless I am sure it cannot be used in any other way, did you know that you can make halloween bats out of egg boxes? I guess even if it can't be used it makes for great insulation? See nothing wasted! :rotfl:
Working on my Bob which so far contains a headlight, instant tea/coffee (for oh) foil blanket, first aid kit and dextrosol. Every chair now has a throws and there are 2 lap quilts made out of an old duvet so snuggly warm. I made a double duvet cover inbto 2 covers for the lap quilts. Old pillows become new dog beds, cushions, stuffing for craft projects etc. I even went so far as to knit up old plastic carrier bags once. The family despair of me mind!I feel I fit right in here though!
Busy working on my patchwork today and then some more granny squares to use up some of stash (before mean dh makes me give it up)
Catz xOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
