Ahhh I hope it's something benign and easy to sort out :) And credit for not being embarrassed to get it seen to (I don't mean to patronise but I have friends who would rather lose a limb than go to the doctor!)

I'm having a really thick day today, I'm trying to work out some minor construction work and just can't wrap my head around the different options/prices/future-proofing

Tonsils be careful, cant you come home? And here am I moaning about a bit of snow!!! I feel like going upstairs and watching something that features the sun!!!!

To be honest Lally...Greece is home to me and has been for the last nineteen years. I love living here still, despite all the problems and goings on politically. I haven't seen the UK as home since I left. I don't intend leaving unless it is in desperate circumstances, and it would have to be desperate to get rid of me. We invested most of our savings in the house we live in, but did put some to one side for emergencies. We don't want to lose the house just by deserting it.

I am here for the long haul, I am a survivor and I love a challenge. It is still a beautiful country with some wonderful people.....its a shame none of them are currently in the government but I feel that might be changing shortly......

2T sorry to hear how rough things are getting out there hope you get some better news over the weekend

I need a supply for powdered eggs people any suggestions?? I've been playing around baking quiches with just food storage items and have got it reasonably right but have almost used up my bags I had..I know sports/health shops sold bigger tubs when I last looked is this ok for cooking with though?
I need whole eggs not whites please thankyou X

About the powdered egg, its more than likely to be egg white only if its sold in the sports stores as people use it to push up their protein count without the fats when they are getting ready for a bodybuilding contest and dieting down. They sell pasteurised egg whites (liquid) in the supermarkets but these are also egg white only. You could use unflavoured protein powder from the sports stores....it has the same amount of protein as steak in it. I use it in gluten free baking as it makes the cakes light and fluffy like ones using ordinary flour. I also use it to make protein pudding (like blancmange but more flavour and better for you ) with sugar free jelly. I get mine from myprotein.com.:D

Its great for storing for emergency SHTF stores and the flavoured ones are lovely.

Just a quick update while we are between thunderstorms....they arrived exactly at the time predicted....you've got to hand it to the Greek news weather forecasts..they are very specific and give times that are accurate. They said the storms would start in the night, clear for a few hours mid morning then come back hard later with increasing winds to gale force.

Well we got them in the night, I heard the thunder in the distance then we got torrential rain and high winds that rattled the shutters. To be honest after a sleepless night the night before I was beyond caring and went back to sleep after a couple of minutes listening to it bouncing off the roof.

Then we both woke up at 5 when it started again. My husband said the house had been rocking with an earth tremor and it was so long lasting he seriously thought of shaking me awake and leaving the house. I felt nothing, but my wardrobe door creaked open and downstairs we had lots of stuff knocked over on the table and onto the floor. When I went outside we had mortar on the floor that had broken off the balcony. I went up the road and our neighbour's had the same thing on their house. I have taken photos and I am going to claim on the insurance for the building. We have to pay 650 euros a year insurance to include earth quakes and storms so I intend to get something towards the damage whatever caused it ! It was okay before, no cracks or damage to it.

The weird thing is that the earthquake site have nothing listed for early morning for us, although I am certain it happened with it waking my OH up. He is not one to be disturbed easily and to think of shaking me awake......he knows the consequences of such an action and it would not be pretty! I am not good with disturbed sleep! Hence I stayed in bed till 10.30 this morning and had a real good sleep.

Tonight we are going to the other side of the island to a retirement party at our favourite bar. We have known the couple for nineteen years. There is a really good group of musicians on as well. Just hope the storms/winds /whatever aren't too bad....I intend getting there and enjoying myself no matter what is going on with the weather.

(((((((alibobsy))))))))) hoping that there's a simple and benign explanation and that it will be sorted out soon.

Well, it's being a miserable day of constant showers, mostly of rain but occasionally one of hail just to add to the fun. I have even seen the odd sunbeam for a couple of minutes at a time.

Have been keeping close to home and sorting out bits and bobs inc preppy bits and bobs.

I'm not widely-read enough to make a deep comment on the European debate so will limit myself to the observation that I don't believe a pan-continental state is viable.

Look at what is happening in a small country like the UK; the move is towards devolution and (possible) independance for some regions.

Several other European countries have debonded from the artificial stuctures imposed on them in the twentieth century; anyone finding Yugoslavia (1929-2003) or Czechoslovakia (1918-1992) on a modern altas?

Belgium has only existed since 1830 and with two main languages, two main cultural backgrounds and some would like to see it divide itself along the Flemish/French linguistic lines. Some in the Basque country would like to be free of Spain. The Northern League in Italy would like to cut itself off from what it perceives as the laziness and corruption of southern Italy..........and repeat with almost infinite variations.

Even the US is squabbling among the so-called Red and Blue states and may well not even be one country in another fifty or a hundred years.

I feel that the era of the continent-spanning country like the USA is on the wane and I cannot see a pan-European superstate rising in the twenty-first century. But I'm not a scholar, just an interested amateur.

If you have or could borrow a food dehydrator you could make your own powdered egg.
